Student answer (Band 6.0)

In these days, people like to migrate in other countries for various reasons. A group of people consider that living in a unfamiliar nation could be a major societal issue which effect individual routine life. I am completely in agreement with given statement and upcoming essay will shed light on complications of migration.

To begin with the most important concern of living in foreign country is that person is not familiar with new place, food and weather. When individual lands on other nation everything changes suddenly. Individual face challenges in sleep pattern and habits. Another major issue people usually face is communication. Since, folk do not known with local language and having difficulties in daily life. Pupil often find assistance for basic conservation such as grocery shopping.

Moreover, migration also impact employment. In other countries, job opportunities are more for those who know local language fluently. Multi national companies prefer employees who are multi-lingual. People who are unable to speak international language work as laborer despite being more educated, competitive and skilled in home country. The other thing that impact the people's life is cultural difference. Initially, people get confused with traffic rules, small gestures and festivals but within few years people adapt the same culture. Living away from family always traumatic for every age group. In stressful situation, people cannot share feeling to others because they do not make them understand in local language.

To conclude, international citizen who are unfamiliar with language and situation face array of problems such as completely different lifestyle, communication difficulties, unemployment and cultural shock as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt by agreeing with the statement and identifying both social and practical problems. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'sleep patterns' and 'grocery shopping' as major social problems lacks depth and does not fully explore the 'serious' nature of the social issues mentioned in the prompt. While the position is clear throughout, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with more specific examples or nuanced reasoning to reach a higher band. The response covers all parts of the task but remains at a general level of discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'adapt the same culture'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall readability and coherence of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'international citizen' instead of 'expatriate' or 'immigrant', and 'basic conservation' instead of 'basic conversation'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'multi-lingual' and 'cultural shock', but the overall control is limited. The repetition of basic words like 'people' and 'things' restricts the lexical variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'folk do not known with local language' and 'migration also impact employment'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the writing from achieving a higher score. More attention to verb tenses and pluralization is needed to improve accuracy.
