Student answer (Band 5.0)

As as student of foreign country there are most of the difficulties face by a international student, foreign language is one of them. Native language of a country is very difficult to understand by a foreign visitor.

First of all, I will discuss about the problems about the foreign language and then I will explain the benefits to learn the new language. In today's world English is an international language and every country's citizens must learn this language to communicate with other country's people. By visit in any other country we will face some problems like when we buy something from a supermarket but we did not understand the language and we will not able to read the language of this country. When we visit any hospital in any emergency we will face difficulties to tell the problem. If we find the trains or any bus in any other country then will not read the timetable if the schedule is not in English or on language which we understand.

Second of all, if we visit another country and we will not understand the language of that country then we should learn the basic alphabets and words of this language and by learn these words we will be able to communicate with the people of this country. By learning of other country's languages we can easily find somethings and not face any problems.

In some up, we will learn english as a foreign language because most of the people of other countries will easily understand the English, even if they don't know about any other language.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but lacks a clear, consistent position. While you acknowledge the difficulties of living in a foreign country, the essay drifts into discussing the benefits of learning a language and the role of English, rather than focusing on the 'social and practical problems' as requested. The ideas are somewhat underdeveloped; for instance, the mention of 'social problems' is largely ignored in favor of practical examples like supermarkets and hospitals. To improve, ensure every paragraph directly supports your stance on the specific problems mentioned in the prompt. A more structured approach, clearly stating your agreement or disagreement in the introduction and maintaining that focus throughout, would lead to a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use basic cohesive devices like 'First of all' and 'Second of all', the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or illogical. For example, the shift from discussing the difficulties of foreign languages to the benefits of learning them is abrupt and does not follow a clear argumentative path. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your train of thought. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. You frequently use basic terms like 'problems', 'language', and 'country'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'By visit in any other country' (should be 'When visiting') and 'In some up' (likely meant 'In summary'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and precision prevents a higher score. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to migration, communication barriers, and social integration, and pay closer attention to the correct usage of phrases and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. There are frequent issues with verb tense consistency, such as 'we will not able to read' (should be 'we will not be able to read') and 'by learn these words' (should be 'by learning these words'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often contain errors in syntax or punctuation. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also inconsistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like missing auxiliary verbs and incorrect word forms.
