Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people face serious social problem as well as practical problems for speaking different countries native language if they want to live over there. In my view, I disagree with this statement to a larger extent. I will provide all the facts and argument related to the topic.

In this segment of the essay, I will provide my argument for my disagreement to the statement. Firstly, due to the advancement of the technology people does not need to learn foreign language because foe communication people can use translation which is easily available on internet. Translation app like google translation provide great facility for the user to use at any part of the world and they can easily communicate with the local people they live with because it has different language options and people can select as per their preference. Therefore, people do not face any social problems like making friends or communication with other local people.

Furthermore, in almost every countries English has became a common language. As it is now compulsory in schools and universities to teach the children in English. So, it is not compulsory for individuals to talk into the native language of that place as may people living over there can easily understand and talk in English.

Conversely, people may find difficult to understand the culture of the new place as they are written in foreign language and hold powerful meaning for the local people and if they do not understand it or misunderstood the culture they often get serious into the social problems. If people are planning to stay over there for longer period of time then it would be better for them to learn that language for any problems related to professional or social life. Moreover, if people want to live in a foreign country they may have to it language although it is not necessary otherwise, it is consider as a disrespect towards their culture

In closing, people in today's time are less likely to get into the trouble in foreign countries for not speaking their language because of the translation apps that are easily available. If people are planning to stay over there for longer period of time then it would be better for them to learn that language for any problems related to professional or social life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the argument regarding technology is clear, the counter-argument in the third paragraph is slightly contradictory, as it acknowledges the importance of language for cultural understanding after arguing it is not necessary. The ideas are relevant, but some points, such as the claim that English is compulsory in 'almost every country', are over-generalisations that lack nuance. To reach a higher band, ensure that arguments are consistently supported and that the position remains focused without undermining itself.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Conversely', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the connection between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The introduction and conclusion are present, but the conclusion repeats the body paragraph content rather than synthesising the argument effectively. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the flow between sentences could be improved with more varied cohesive links.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'advancement' and 'compulsory', but there are also recurring errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'get serious into the social problems' and 'have to it language'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on repetitive phrasing. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding awkward phrasing that hinders the natural flow of the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('people does not need', 'every countries... has became') and article usage. While these errors do not typically impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The punctuation is generally functional, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent. To achieve a higher score, focus on correcting basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
