Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by agreeing with the statement and providing examples of social and practical problems. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The introduction is unclear and lacks a strong thesis statement, and the conclusion is brief. While the student identifies relevant points, such as employment difficulties and legal issues, these are not fully extended or explored with depth. The response stays on topic, but the overall argument lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score. To improve, the student should focus on developing each point with more detailed explanations and ensuring the position is clearly articulated throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'resultant they suffer' is grammatically incorrect and awkward. Referencing is also problematic, as seen in phrases like 'who people are living in abroad'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the introduction, which makes it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. To improve, the student should practice using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that pronouns and references clearly point back to the intended subjects.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'problems', 'language', and 'people'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'who individuals are living' instead of 'individuals living' and 'country language' instead of 'the language of the country'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the lack of precision and frequent errors in word formation hinder the overall quality. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to expand their vocabulary range and focus on learning correct collocations and more sophisticated synonyms for common words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, such as 'if they do not know how to communicate with foreigners they cannot get job' (missing articles and awkward phrasing) and 'they cannot able explain' (incorrect verb usage). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the student attempts some complex sentence structures, they are rarely error-free. The high frequency of basic grammatical mistakes suggests a need for a stronger grasp of fundamental sentence construction and parts of speech.
