Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both social and practical problems. However, the development of ideas is limited. For instance, the point about education is mentioned but lacks specific detail or examples to fully support the argument. The conclusion introduces a new point about the advantages of speaking a foreign language, which is slightly off-topic as the prompt asks about the problems of not speaking one. The position is clear, but the overall development is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding communication difficulties.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often mechanical. While cohesive devices like 'in addition', 'moreover', and 'in conclusion' are used, they are sometimes used incorrectly or repetitively. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'the reason is he cannot communicate', where the pronoun 'he' lacks a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical progression, making the argument feel somewhat disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is significant repetition of phrases like 'foreign language' and 'social problem'. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'get admit' instead of 'be admitted' and 'significant drawbacks' (which should be plural 'are'). The range is limited to basic, everyday language, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions that would elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. When complex structures are attempted, they often contain errors, such as 'A person who can not speak a foreign language it is very difficult for him'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, punctuation (e.g., misuse of semicolons), and article usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of grammatical errors and the lack of a variety of complex structures limit the score in this criterion.
