Student answer (Band 5.5)

Living in a country where you have to communicate in foreign language can result serious problems such as social and practical. I am not agree with, we completely have to learn to the foreign language that is required for a new place.

Firstly, you have to move in a country but you have little knowlege of their language, it can become a serious issue. The nation with specific locations or roles that are unfamilir to you, you must need a residencial friend who guide you about the instructions but how you can build a relationship with anyone if you unable to speak in their local language. Similarly, at the work place during the information session if you are missing the instructional map, how will you perform the task. Therefore, basic know how about the language is necessary.

In my opinion, its not compulsary to firstly learn a new language and then move, i think its a wastage of time. A person can get the better language skills when he get involved in a similar envirnemnt. In addition, at the start everyone face difficulties but now a days it is easy to go for online help such as by using translation apps we can get the required point. Likewise, at professional places we can request for paperbase translations. For example, a student moved to germany and first day he recieves a paper which contained classrooms roles, he just get a picture and ask to a traslation application convert this german paper into english language.

To sum up, new places can cause problems if you have lack of their local language but it is not a completely disaster. Every community gives us space to adjust in the environment and at the start you can cop with it by your smart behaviour.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the challenges of living in a foreign country and providing a personal opinion. However, the position is somewhat contradictory; the introduction states the writer disagrees with the premise, yet the body paragraphs acknowledge that language barriers cause 'serious issues.' The development of ideas is limited, relying on simple examples like translation apps. To reach a higher band, the argument needs to be more consistent and the ideas more thoroughly explored, moving beyond basic observations to address the 'social' and 'practical' aspects mentioned in the prompt more deeply.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Similarly' and 'Likewise' used to introduce points that do not strictly follow a logical progression. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the flow between the need for a 'residencial friend' and the 'instructional map' is disjointed. While there is an overall progression, the transitions between sentences and ideas often feel forced or lack the necessary sophistication to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word-choice errors, such as 'I am not agree with' instead of 'I disagree,' and 'paperbase translations' instead of 'written translations.' The student relies on basic vocabulary throughout, and there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'knowlege,' 'unfamilir,' 'compulsary,' 'envirnemnt,' 'traslation,' 'cop with'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of control over word formation and spelling limits the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('everyone face difficulties'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage ('learn to the foreign language'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex structures.
