Student answer (Band 6.0)
Living abroad where native language is compulsory, can act as a communication barrier to socialize with others, which can cause problems in the long run. I disagree with this statement, as learning a foreign language is quite advantageous in many ways, it can enable new paths, where you can cherish also shows a sense of respect towards their culture.
To begin with, learning a foreign language is necessary to survive in a foreign land, either to work, learn education or to socialize with locals. For example, in Germany, in order to work or study the individual should learn their native language and some organizations conduct examinations for the German language, if qualified then they will be awarded with certificate of merit, which can be useful in getting an admission or a job.
Moreover, having a native language should be considered important as nowadays English is becoming the predominant universal language, which is the reason the communities slowly stop using their mother tongue to speak a dominant foreign one. That is why, individuals should make sure they learn the foreign language depending on the country they are choosing for their higher education or work. In order to respect their culture and tradition by maintaining the originality of their origin language.
In conclusion, it is important for individual to learn the foreign language, which shows the sense of respect towards their native speakers. This eventually helps in developing contacts, socializing with the people near workspace also it can be a stepping stone towards getting permanent residence in that country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the necessity of learning a foreign language in a new country. However, it mainly disagrees with the statement that living in a foreign language environment causes social problems, which is only partially aligned with the task. The argument is underdeveloped and would benefit from more specific examples and details to fully support the claims made. For instance, the mention of Germany lacks depth—additional examples showing how language learning fosters social integration would strengthen the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The coherence and cohesion of the essay are generally effective. There is a clear structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which aids the logical flow. However, some sentences are overly complex or could be better linked. For example, the transition between discussing the German language and the significance of English could be smoother. More cohesive devices could enhance the clarity of the connections between ideas, such as using phrases like 'Furthermore' or 'Additionally'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The lexical resource used in the essay includes a mixture of relevant vocabulary related to language learning and social issues. While some phrases like "communication barrier" are appropriate, there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as "a native language is compulsory" which could be simplified. Additionally, terms like "certificate of merit" can be replaced with more precise expressions. There is some lexical repetition that could be avoided to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
Grammatical range and accuracy are generally acceptable, though there are instances of errors. For example, "can act as a communication barrier to socialize with others" may be clearer if rephrased to "can create communication barriers in socializing with others." There are also issues with sentence construction, such as run-on sentences, which affect clarity. More varied sentence structures could improve the overall quality of the response.
Overall feedback
Your essay effectively argues against the notion that living in a foreign language environment creates significant social problems. You present relevant points, but I recommend including more specific experiences or examples to illustrate your arguments, as this will enhance your task achievement score. Additionally, focus on refining your sentence structure for clarity and cohesion – check for long, complex sentences that could be simplified. Expanding your vocabulary range and avoiding repetition will also help elevate your score. Pay attention to grammatical precision, as minor errors can detract from the clarity of your argument. Overall, with more development and attention to coherence, you could increase your score substantially.
