Student answer (Band 6.0)

In todays era lot of people travel to foreign some for travel while others for study or work. However living in abroad comes with lot of problems such as social and practical problems. I largely agree with this statement and will discuss it in detail in the following paragraphs.

To commence, living in different nation can lead to serious social problems such as, person have to speak other language also difficulty in understanding the accent which might create misunderstanding. For instance, youngling went to abroad for higher studies firstly they have to reach the place where they are going to leave finding the location gets quite difficult in a completely different country. However, asking for help becomes problematic when you are not familiar to the language. Additionally attending lecture is confusing in starting due to language difference.

Moving on further to, problems like going for shopping ,exploring the area feeling of loneliness and homesickness. In other words, when someone is away from home they start to feel lonely and stressful because of new environment and no friends, but when they start to talk with others and meet them they become friends the feeling of loneliness start to fade. However with the passing time they get familiar to these things and start to adapt them which gets easier for them to live there and handle everything.

To conclude, living in a country where you have to speak foreign language can be challenging in starting but with the time it gets easy to tackle , to adjust and adapt.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by acknowledging both social and practical problems. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention language barriers and loneliness, the examples provided, such as 'youngling went to abroad', are underdeveloped and lack depth. The position is clear, but the argument could be strengthened by providing more specific, real-world examples or a more nuanced discussion of how these problems manifest in professional or academic settings. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear reasoning rather than just listing potential issues.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence', 'Additionally', and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the flow between the difficulty of finding a location and attending lectures is somewhat abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences within paragraphs are more tightly connected would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'youngling went to abroad' and 'get familiar to these things'. You rely on basic vocabulary, and there is a lack of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions that would demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more precise academic vocabulary related to migration and cultural adjustment.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include missing articles ('in different nation'), incorrect prepositions ('familiar to the language'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('the feeling of loneliness start to fade'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles and correct verb forms, before attempting more complex structures.
