Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is stated that residing in a country where you have to communicate in a foreign language, which you can not speak fluently can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems. I completely agree with this view, as it can create various problems in connecting with other people and everyday activities.
Basically, living in overseas country can create many social problems, especially when you do not speak a foreign language clearly. With limited language ability, it becomes difficult to make new friends, as it is difficult to communicate with local people. Moreover, you may feel isolated or excluded when you can not develop new friendships. For example, A foreign student may find it difficult to participate in conversations with classmates because they cannot understand jokes and informal expressions. In this case, they spend more time with people who speak their own language.
Language barrier not only cause social problems but it can also cause some practical problems. It mainly cause a difficulty in accessing essential services. Individuals have to face many issues in daily life activities, as they hesitate to talk with other people and sometimes they may fail to explain them what they want to say. That's why they face serious situations at many places. For example, when foreigners can not explain the exact symptoms to doctors, and also can not understand medical instructions properly, they may have potentially serious consequences due to wrong treatment. Apart from this, immigrants also have to face problems in getting better jobs which may cause lower income and career limitations for them.
In conclusion, language barrier can have massive impacts on people living abroad, causing them to live alone due to poor communication with other people and they may face difficulties in accessing healthcare as well as employment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position of agreement and providing relevant arguments for both social and practical problems. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the difficulty of understanding jokes and the risks associated with medical consultations. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your arguments further by exploring the long-term implications of these issues or providing more nuanced analysis, rather than just listing examples. The position is consistent throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as social problems in the second paragraph and practical problems in the third. Cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'For example', and 'Apart from this' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of referencing and substitution techniques to avoid repetitive sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication of your ideas. You use some topic-specific terms like 'language barrier', 'essential services', and 'career limitations'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'living in overseas country' (should be 'living in an overseas country') and 'fail to explain them what they want to say'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common academic vocabulary to demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent minor grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('living in overseas country', 'language barrier not only cause'), subject-verb agreement issues ('it mainly cause'), and punctuation errors. These errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles, and try to incorporate more complex sentence forms with greater accuracy.
