Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the benefits and the challenges of living in a foreign-language environment. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the essay touches on social and practical issues, the arguments are somewhat superficial and lack depth. For instance, the mention of 'discrimination' and 'mental stress' is relevant but lacks specific, well-explained examples beyond a vague reference to a survey. The position is stated in the introduction but is not consistently maintained or clearly concluded, as the final paragraph merely summarizes the points without reinforcing a clear stance. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples for each point raised.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'First but not least' and 'due to they get feel' are used incorrectly, which disrupts the flow of ideas. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of 'these language' or 'there' instead of 'their'. While there is an attempt at logical progression, the transitions between sentences are often abrupt or confusing. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas precisely. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'partical' for 'partially', 'sucessful' for 'successful', and 'discrminaton' for 'discrimination'. Additionally, the misuse of basic collocations—such as 'international county culture'—hinders clarity. To improve, you should focus on expanding your vocabulary related to migration and social integration and pay closer attention to spelling and correct word forms. Using a wider range of precise, topic-specific vocabulary would help you move into a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'due to this they need to speak another language'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. Errors in basic grammar, such as 'they are not understand' instead of 'they do not understand', occur frequently and occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and pluralization.
