Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address the prompt by agreeing that language barriers cause social and practical problems, the arguments are underdeveloped and the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly after the second paragraph. The examples provided, such as the situation in Singapore, are relevant but lack the necessary depth to fully explore the topic. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words and provide a clear conclusion that summarises your main points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', but the overall structure is fragmented. The paragraphing is incomplete, and the lack of a conclusion makes the progression of ideas feel unfinished. Some sentences are difficult to follow due to poor logical flow, such as the transition between the general statement about tourists and the specific example of a taxi driver. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and supporting details will help improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'problems' and 'issues'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word forms, such as 'It is widely say' instead of 'It is widely said' and 'abroad individuals' instead of 'foreigners'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. You should focus on learning collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and to convey your meaning more naturally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'tourist faces', 'local flocks not able'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures (e.g., 'which is go ahead from their heads'). The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in complex constructions. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically verb tenses and pluralisation, before attempting more complex structures.
