Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the prompt effectively. The student repeatedly copies the entire prompt statement as a placeholder for an argument, which does not constitute a relevant or developed response. The essay lacks a clear position and fails to provide any concrete examples or logical arguments regarding the social or practical problems of living in a foreign country. Instead, the text relies on vague, repetitive phrases like 'numerous benefits' and 'excel and thrive' without explaining what those benefits are or how they relate to the topic. Consequently, the ideas are underdeveloped and largely irrelevant to the specific question asked.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
While the essay is divided into paragraphs, the internal logic is severely lacking. The transition words used, such as 'Moreover' and 'Hence', are applied mechanically and do not connect meaningful ideas, as the content itself is repetitive and circular. The frequent repetition of the prompt statement disrupts the flow and makes the text difficult to follow. There is no clear progression of thought; the essay moves from one vague assertion to another without building a coherent argument. Referencing is also problematic, as the pronouns often lack clear antecedents due to the disjointed nature of the sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a range of vocabulary that attempts to sound academic, such as 'upsurge', 'myriad', 'plethora', and 'deliberations'. However, these words are often used incorrectly or in inappropriate contexts, leading to unnatural collocations. For example, 'I do not entirely accepted this' contains a grammatical error, and the phrase 'too go to ignore' is a clear misuse of vocabulary. The constant repetition of the prompt's wording indicates a limited ability to paraphrase or express ideas using original, precise language. The vocabulary is often used as a 'filler' rather than to convey specific meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The most dominate one is that...'), tense usage ('I do not entirely accepted this'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or contain awkward phrasing, such as 'in the number of believing that'. While there is an attempt at complex sentence structures, these are often poorly constructed and contain errors that distract the reader. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and capitalization errors throughout the text.
