Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people believe that living in a country where you have to talk a non-native language might cause serious social problems while other people argued that it also cause practical problems. I partially agree with both these views which causes difficulties with their peers as well as it causes barriers in the culture.

It is believed that non-native language causes some social challenges like as communication difficulties and cultural barriers. Firstly, living in a countryside people are tackling the challenges with communication because of the foreign language which leads to misunderstanding. Secondly, increasing population became against to you due to your different culture that leads to barriers in the society. For instance, one of the peoples from British could not integrate into the culture as well as in the society. Thus, non-native language cause several problems in the society which leads to challenges for themselves.

It is undeniable that an abroad language create practical obstacles in education , shopping as well as in personal lives activities . On the one hand , it creates issue in education sector which is because of studying in other language will be complicated rather than native one. On the another hand, when the language is unknown it will be obviously challenges to buy things which leads to challenges in personal activities. Furthermore, finding a job and earn some money will also be a practical challenges which brings starvation .Therefore, non-native language is the major practical problem which brings famine.

In the conclusion, living in outside of the country while have to speak a foreign language results in cultural barriers and misunderstanding which brings crowd and starvation in the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both social and practical problems. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent and sometimes illogical. For instance, the claim that language barriers lead to 'starvation' and 'famine' is an extreme over-generalization that lacks logical support and misinterprets the prompt's focus on social and practical challenges. While a position is stated, the arguments are not fully extended or supported with relevant, realistic examples. The conclusion introduces new, hyperbolic claims that were not adequately explored in the body paragraphs. To improve, focus on providing more realistic, nuanced examples of how language barriers impact daily life, such as accessing healthcare or navigating legal systems, rather than resorting to hyperbolic outcomes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'increasing population became against to you', which makes the logical flow difficult to follow. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear topic sentence followed by supporting evidence. The transition between the social and practical sections is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words to show logical relationships rather than just listing points would significantly enhance the coherence of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'abroad language' instead of 'foreign language', 'personal lives activities', and 'one of the peoples from British'. The repetition of basic terms like 'problems', 'challenges', and 'society' indicates a restricted range. Some phrases are used in a way that obscures meaning, such as 'brings crowd and starvation'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations (e.g., 'language barrier', 'social integration') and using more precise vocabulary to describe the challenges of living in a foreign country, rather than relying on general, repetitive terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'other people argued that it also cause'), article usage (e.g., 'in the society'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors in complex structures, such as 'living in a countryside people are tackling the challenges'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement would be a beneficial next step.
