Student answer (Band 5.5)

In todays increasingly globalized world many individuals move to other countries where the language was different due to which they face major difficulties in social as well as practical life . In this essay we will discuss some of the most common issue that arrives because of language barrier .

Living in country where the language is different is quite hectic. People face lot of difficulties even in making friend , it make them feel socially isolated because even in a group of majority they still feel lonely and excluded. For instance, In universities where some students are migrated from some other country feels extremely hesitate to have a normal conversation with their fellows even they lack their confidences in asking some question to their teacher which they were unable to get.

From practical perspective , either its about health or work . Their are major hurdles for a foreigner. Sometime when someone feel sick they were unable to tell the doctor about their symptoms properly. Some individuals have fewer job opportunities than local residents because of the language barrier. Employers often prefer workers who can communicate fluently. This is particularly important when employees have to communicate with client or customers.

In my opinion to avoid such essential problem as well as practical problems it is better to work on improving language skill before moving to some other country where you face language barrier.

In conclusion both perspectives have reasonable argument , so I would say on the one hand people first learn some language skills and then move and if due to some reasons they move without getting enough language skills the citizens should help them to learn as well as letting them know about how thing work in their country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both social and practical problems associated with living in a foreign-language environment. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the paragraph on practical problems mentions health and work but does not fully explore the implications or provide specific, well-developed examples. The conclusion introduces a new idea about host citizens helping immigrants, which is not fully integrated into the main argument. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For instance' and 'In conclusion', but the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For example, the use of 'In my opinion' and 'In conclusion' is standard, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the final paragraph is slightly disjointed in its attempt to summarize the previous points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'globalized', 'socially isolated', and 'fluently', but there are also instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'the language was different' (should be 'is different') and 'some students are migrated' (should be 'have migrated'). There is also some repetition of basic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('some students... feels', 'Their are major hurdles'), article usage ('in country'), and tense consistency ('when someone feel sick they were unable'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb forms and pluralization, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater precision.
