Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under-length at only 83 words, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the introduction attempts to outline the topic and state an intention to examine both perspectives, the essay ends abruptly without providing any body paragraphs, arguments, or a conclusion. The position is not developed, and the prompt's requirement to provide reasons and examples is not met. Because the response is so brief, it cannot be considered a complete essay, resulting in a low score for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is limited to a single introductory paragraph. While there is a basic attempt at logical flow using transition words like 'while' and 'in this essay', the lack of further development means there is no overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are present but limited due to the extreme brevity of the text. Paragraphing is not demonstrated as the response consists of only one block of text. To improve, the student must expand the response into distinct paragraphs with clear topic sentences and supporting evidence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is somewhat repetitive and basic. Phrases such as 'unfamiliar tongue' and 'major societal hurdles' show an attempt at academic tone, but there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'makes you comfort' instead of 'makes you comfortable' and 'does not creates' instead of 'does not create'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors occasionally hinder the clarity of the intended meaning. A wider range of precise, topic-specific vocabulary is needed to reach higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that impede fluency. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('does not creates', 'individual believe'), incorrect preposition usage ('due to of its'), and awkward phrasing ('speaking language of that country where your are living'). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and the attempt at a complex sentence structure is marred by these persistent errors. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
