Student answer (Band 6.0)
Residing in a country where people are required to communicate in a foreign language can lead to both social and practical difficulties. I completely agree with this statement because language barriers can create problems in social interactions as well as everyday activities.
On the one hand, foreign language can cause social isolation and misunderstanding in a country. Interacting with local people and communities can be difficult if they does not understand your language. Consequently, speaking another language rather than country's own language will result in less or no friendships and relationships at all. Conflicts can also arise due to misunderstandings and a person may face loneliness, stress and social isolation. For example, if a foreigner cannot speak native language well, then he will not be able to communicate with neighbours and friends as well.
On the other hand, daily life tasks and activities may be difficult due to the language barrier. Explaining health related symptoms in front of a doctor will also be challenging for a patient. Reading legal policies and notices may also be hard for someone living out of the country. It will be hard for a person to understand transport and road signs. However, bank, job interview and shopping may also be demanding for that person. For instance, without knowing a country's own language, a person will be unable to get and grab a high rank job.
In conclusion, I completely agree that living in a country where a foreign language is spoken can create serious difficulties. It can make social communication challenging and can also cause problems when dealing with everyday activities and essential services

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating an agreement with the statement. The ideas are relevant, covering both social and practical difficulties. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention that 'conflicts can arise' or that 'legal policies' are hard to read, these points are not fully extended with specific, concrete examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, aim to provide more detailed explanations of how these barriers specifically impact an individual's life, rather than listing several potential problems in quick succession.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Consequently', and 'For instance' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main themes. To improve, try to vary the cohesive devices and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid, rather than relying on standard signposting phrases at the start of every paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'social isolation', 'misunderstandings', and 'essential services'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'get and grab a high rank job', which sounds unnatural. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding redundant phrasing. For example, instead of 'get and grab', a more academic choice would be 'secure a high-level position'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. For example, 'if they does not understand' should be 'if they do not understand', and 'speaking another language rather than country's own language' is missing articles. Additionally, 'However, bank, job interview and shopping may also be demanding' is a list that lacks proper parallel structure. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your score in this area.
