Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that living in a country where you have to speak foreign language can cause social problems, as well as practical problems. I completely agree with this argument. Spending life in a country where we have to speak foreign language might cause certain problems for us, such as work problems, health problems, loneliness, and other social issues.
On one hand, if we are living in a country where we have to talk with others in the language of that country cause many problems in delivering our message to somebody. This problem can cause a lot of issues for us, such as hunting a good job there and for work in public areas where the native language is required. For example, in France if we are English speaker we have to learn French language in order to work there and live there.
On the other hand, if are not native language speaker we might have a huge problem, as we always remain alone and we cannot communicate with others like for fun. The other particular problem with foreign language is that if we want to buy something or to travel everything we find is in native language and if we are not native speaker the thing get harder for us to do. For example, if we want to go to the hospital and we are not native language speaker we might face different problems, such as in travelling and understanding the doctors advise etc.
To conclude, living in a country where we have to speak foreign language might cause a lot of problems for us if we are not native speaker. Consequently, we have to speak or learn the language of that country if we want to survive there. Personally, I believe that if we have to live in a country then we have to learn native language.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by acknowledging both social and practical problems associated with living in a foreign-language environment. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the points regarding 'work problems' and 'social issues' are mentioned but not explored with sufficient depth or specific, nuanced examples. The examples provided, such as the mention of France or visiting a doctor, are relevant but remain somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on the implications of these problems, perhaps by discussing the psychological impact of isolation or the systemic barriers in professional integration more thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Consequently' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but there is a lack of variety in the cohesive devices used. To improve, try to use more sophisticated linking phrases and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother, rather than relying on a simple list-like structure for your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'problems' and 'things' repeatedly. There are also some issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'hunting a good job' (instead of 'securing' or 'finding') and 'the thing get harder' (which is informal and imprecise). While the meaning is always clear, the lack of more sophisticated or academic vocabulary limits the score. Incorporating more topic-specific collocations related to language acquisition and social integration would significantly enhance your lexical profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'speak foreign language' instead of 'speak a foreign language'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'if are not native language speaker'), and awkward phrasing. While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering the use of articles and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately. Reviewing basic sentence structure and proofreading for small grammatical slips will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy.
