Student answer (Band 6.0)
Living abroad in a country where the language is foreign can be difficult, and also cause practical, as well as social problems. I agree to this statement, because, not knowing the native language of area can make survival difficult, and create huge gaps between any individual and their environment.
While, great amount of people prefer going abroad for better opportunities and future, not knowing the local language can cause a lot of misunderstanding, and create huge gaps between them and locals residing there. Finding jobs and educational opportunities also becomes harder to find. For example, if a student from South Asian country decides to go Europe to pursue higher education, it will be very difficult for them to find courses that are available in their first or second language, and even if they somehow manage to find one, or get their degree in that country. Finding suitable jobs becomes even harder, since most of the companies prefer native speakers as it reduces the hustle of language gap and overall makes the whole process smooth. Moreover, not being able to speak indigenous language, directly displays one's immigration. It makes it easy for people to spot individuals that are not local, which can cause racial discrimination.
On the other hand, if people put in effort to learn that foreign language, it becomes much more easy to blend in, or to make connections that might be beneficial for both work and social purpose.
In conclusion, knowing local language of foreign country is important and it does a lot more good, than any harm at all. It can save people from many troubles and might even present opportunities that they desire.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both social and practical problems associated with language barriers. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding South Asian students in Europe is relevant but could be expanded to better illustrate the 'social' aspect beyond just employment. The conclusion is a bit brief and could have more effectively summarised the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more thorough exploration of the consequences mentioned in the topic sentence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'While', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the discussion of job hunting and racial discrimination feels slightly abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is a bit repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong, unified focus will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'indigenous language', 'misunderstanding', and 'beneficial'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'hustle of language gap' (likely meaning 'hassle') and 'great amount of people' (which should be 'a large number of people'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the control is not always precise. To improve, focus on collocations and ensure that the words chosen fit the formal context of an academic essay perfectly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('go Europe' should be 'go to Europe', 'native language of area' should be 'native language of the area') and punctuation issues, particularly with unnecessary commas after 'While' and 'language'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for article usage and ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly to enhance clarity and accuracy.
