Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the task directly, taking a clear and well-developed position that living abroad has positive effects such as language acquisition and personal independence. The introduction clearly outlines the writer's stance, and the body paragraphs provide relevant arguments. However, some ideas tend to over-generalize or repeat concepts, particularly around social skills and adaptation in the second and third body paragraphs. For instance, the discussion on younger communities in the fourth paragraph mirrors points already made about communication skills. Despite these minor repetitions, the core requirements of the prompt are covered, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, utilizing conventional transitional markers like 'Firstly and foremost', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in sentences like 'As people living aborad shared everyday activities... they constantly struggling', where grammatical issues disrupt the flow. Progression is maintained throughout the text, but the mechanical nature of cohesive devices and occasional awkward transitions place this response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The writer attempts less common vocabulary with varying degrees of success, demonstrating an adequate range for the task. Words and phrases such as 'meaningful process', 'wider susceptible', and 'brand-new languaje' show an attempt to use varied lexis, though there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'languaje', 'aborad', and 'posses' instead of 'possess'. Furthermore, collocation errors like 'wider susceptible' instead of 'more susceptible' occur. Despite these slips, meaning is rarely impeded, warranting a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. However, frequent grammatical errors are present, particularly in verb forms and tense consistency, such as 'experience to live', 'as improve our ability', and 'they constantly struggling'. Subordinate clauses are attempted, but many contain structural inaccuracies. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score, making Band 5.5 an appropriate evaluation.
