Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern era, people like to travel and explore new places, whereas language can be challenging. Moving to a different country, which has its own language can create some social as well as practical problems. I partially agree with this problem. In this essay, I will discuss it briefly with my opinion.
Individuals can face many problems while they are moving abroad. One of them is homesickness. This is because they can not meet their family. As they have to either study or work abroad. Therefore, they cannot meet their family. Another problem is language. Every nation has its own different language, and sometimes it is hard to learn it. That will lead to communication problems. They cannot have a basic conversation with someone in daily life. Because of that, individuals cannot find a job easily. It will create a huge financial crisis for a person, and it becomes frustrating.
Some people disagree with this problem, as they want to try something new and they are well prepared for those issues. Some people like to challenge themselves and like to try something. Therefore, they are easily settled in a new environment despite having some problems. Many people go abroad for better opportunities and development for their careers. Therefore, they are more mature, and they are able to cope with these issues. They are more focused towards their goals and do not worry about any social anxiety or other matters.
In conclusion, moving abroad is such a huge decision for someone. As they have to leave their family and friends; however, with the proper mindset, one can overcome all the hurdles and get success.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and presents a clear position, stating that the writer partially agrees with the statement. Ideas regarding both the challenges of moving abroad, such as language barriers and homesickness, and the counter-arguments, such as career opportunities and personal growth, are introduced. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on homesickness is briefly mentioned and then reiterated, and the explanation of how language barriers lead to financial crises lacks deeper elaboration. According to the Band 6 descriptors, the task is addressed, but some ideas tend to be under-developed. To reach a higher band, the student should expand on their arguments with more specific examples and deeper analysis rather than moving quickly between points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is generally coherent and follows a logical overall structure, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing both sides, and finally a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different concepts, such as personal challenges versus positive attitudes. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical and repetitive. For example, the writer begins multiple sentences with transitional phrases like 'Therefore,' or 'As a result,' as seen in 'Therefore, they cannot meet their family' and 'Therefore, they are easily settled.' Referencing is also occasionally unclear or abrupt. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor, which notes that cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, and referencing is not always clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'homesickness', 'environment', 'opportunities', and 'frustrating'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these sometimes result in slight inaccuracies in collocation or word choice, such as 'get success' instead of 'achieve success' or 'focused towards' instead of 'focused on'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication. This performance fits the Band 6 level, where the writer has an adequate range for the task, attempts less common vocabulary with some inaccuracy, and makes errors that do not hinder the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. Structures such as 'Moving to a different country, which has its own language can create some social as well as practical problems' show an attempt at subordination. However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as missing commas or slight punctuation issues, and sentences like 'Some people disagree with this problem, as they want to try something new' which show somewhat strained phrasing. Errors are present, but they rarely impede communication. This reflects the Band 6 descriptors, which describe a mix of simple and complex sentence forms with some errors that do not obscure the overall meaning.
