Student answer (Band 5.0)

Residing in the country that is diverse than our native state can result in various social and practical challenges. I somewhat agree to this statement. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I partially agree to this prompt.

Some individuals agree that living in their home country does not facilitate them with numerous advantages, while some strongly believe that moving to a new state would bring a number of social and practical life benefits .They may believe this but no-one is actually aware of the real life consequences that they had to face them there , whether it is about language or their distinct heritage.

Admittedly, travelling to a different country would lead to long term benefits and vast amount of social income, nevertheless, nobody wants to discuss the issues and the struggles that they face with their language and customs . The leading cause of this is that no-one is pre-maturely prepared for this , particularly the post-graduate , who competes with a lot of mischief regarding to their house-rent , semester fee, part-time jobs and with highly -budget foods. However , gradually the member of the society become adapted to their broad culture and ambience.

Variety of learners from various cultures joined to make a whole community , initially they have to endure the language difficulties but then afterwards, it become their native language and they feel calm to meet anyone , apart from the pupils who come from diverse cultures or the hardships they had to endure. This also boost up their confidence level and they do not hesitate to talk publicly.

In conclusion, I would prefer to say that if difficulties transform the individuals into a well- groomed personality, so it was not a loss but indeed a win. So , this essay has both merits and defects but its disadvantages never outweighs its advantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The candidate addresses the prompt by discussing both the social and practical challenges of living in a foreign country, presenting a somewhat agreeable position ("I somewhat agree to this statement"). However, the development of ideas lacks clarity and focus. In the second paragraph, the student misinterprets the opposing view, stating that living in their home country does not facilitate advantages, which is somewhat confusing in the context of the prompt. While the essay touches on housing, part-time jobs, and language barriers in the third paragraph, the arguments are somewhat underdeveloped and convoluted. The position remains somewhat vague throughout, as the essay oscillates between discussing general benefits and specific student struggles. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 5, as the task is addressed only partially and ideas are limited and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into five paragraphs, including an introduction and conclusion, which provides a basic structural framework. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by unclear referencing and abrupt transitions. For instance, the transition from the second to the third paragraph ("Admittedly, travelling to a different country would lead to...") abruptly shifts without a clear cohesive thread connecting the preceding points. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes ambiguous, such as in the phrase "They may believe this but no-one is actually aware..." where the antecedent for 'they' is unclear. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, as seen with "In conclusion, I would prefer to say..." Therefore, the organisation shows some structure, but overall progression lacks clarity, meriting a Band 5 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to convey basic ideas, but the range is limited and frequently imprecise. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'ambience', 'well-groomed personality', and 'pre-maturely', but these terms are often used inappropriately in context (e.g., "highly-budget foods" or "competes with a lot of mischief regarding to their house-rent"). There are also noticeable word choice and collocation errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Repetition of basic words and phrases, such as 'diverse cultures', 'practical problems', and 'advantages', further restricts the lexical range. These limitations place the response firmly in the Band 5 category for Lexical Resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempts at subordination and relative clauses (e.g., "Residing in the country that is diverse than our native state can result in..."). However, control over complex structures is weak, leading to frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Examples of errors include prepositions and comparative forms ("diverse than" instead of 'more diverse than'), tense inconsistencies, and punctuation errors. For instance, the sentence "if difficulties transform the individuals into a well- groomed personality, so it was not a loss but indeed a win" contains redundant conjunctions and faulty conditional structures. Because errors are frequent and occasionally obscure meaning, a Band 5 score is appropriate.
