Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The student attempts to address the prompt regarding the social and practical problems of living in a country with an unfamiliar foreign language, stating general agreement. However, the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 183 words instead of the required 250. This severe under-length restricts the development of ideas, leading to under-developed arguments and repetition, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about careers and daily routines are restated without substantial elaboration or clear examples. Because the task is only partially addressed due to length constraints and limited idea expansion, this merits a Band 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is organized into paragraphs with basic transition markers such as 'To commence with' and 'However'. However, the overall progression is heavily disrupted by poor logical sequencing and confusing referencing. For instance, sentences like 'until we can't understand our meaning to the another person we unable survive that' lack clear logical connections and make the flow difficult to follow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is faulty and mechanical. Cohesive devices are often inaccurate or misused, leading to a choppy and disjointed reading experience. This aligns closely with the Band 4 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The student demonstrates a very limited and basic vocabulary, relying on simple, repetitive words and phrases such as 'practical life', 'daily routine', and 'official language'. There are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'where you are live', 'national language teat', and 'for the convertion'. These lexical inaccuracies, combined with awkward phrasing and word form errors (e.g., 'career profession'), frequently strain the reader and obscure the intended meaning. The lexical range is minimally adequate for basic expression but falls short of higher bands due to persistent errors and lack of precision, earning a Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is extremely weak throughout the response. The text is riddled with basic errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure, such as 'it can makes problems', 'until we can't understand our meaning', and 'it we don't able for the convertion'. There is a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences consistently result in severe errors and ungrammatical constructions that distort meaning. Punctuation is also erratic. Because errors are extremely frequent and impede communication across the majority of the text, this performance corresponds to a Band 4.0.
