Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The student addresses the prompt by discussing both social and practical problems associated with living in a foreign country, such as misunderstandings, offensive words, and the importance of respecting local culture and religion. However, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 201 words. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas, restricting the score according to IELTS criteria. The position is somewhat discernible, but ideas are compressed and lack the necessary depth and extension. Therefore, the task achievement is limited by the failure to meet the minimum word count requirement and under-developed supporting examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is written as a single, continuous block of text without any paragraph breaks. This severely disrupts the logical progression and organization of ideas. There is a complete lack of paragraphing, which makes the essay difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying heavily on run-on sentences connected by conjunctions like 'and' rather than structured transitions. While there is a loose train of thought moving from language problems to cultural respect and government awareness, the absence of cohesive structure and paragraphing limits the coherence to a lower band level.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with numerous spelling and word choice errors. Examples include 'actualy' instead of actually, 'challengin' instead of challenging, 'reputintion in the ground' instead of ruining your reputation, 'carfuly' instead of carefully, 'religent' instead of religion, and 'pray' instead of prayer. The student attempts to use some less common words, but frequent inaccuracies in word formation and collocation impede understanding in several places. The lexical range is narrow and insufficient for precise expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response exhibits very limited grammatical control. The entire text is essentially one massive run-on sentence containing numerous clauses linked incorrectly with coordinating conjunctions and lacking proper punctuation and capitalization. There is an absence of complex structures deployed accurately, and simple sentence forms are compromised by frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the gouverment and the authority's do awarness') and missing articles. These persistent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and prevent the formation of clear, error-free independent clauses.
