IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that sometimes people may face different issues such as social and practical because of foreign languages. I agree with this statement because people cannot communicate easily in foreign languages with native speakers and they may feel difficulty to find an employment.

People have to face various social challenges if they move to abroad for studies or ocupation. Newcomers cannot easily talk with foreign people. This is because the majority of individuals feel reluctant to speak in any foreign language, they feel that native people will make fun of them. As a result, they do not go outside and socialize with others, this can lead them towards loneliness and depression. Mostly youngsters prefer to live alone in their houses and they miss their family members. For instance, in England, there are many students and workers who go through depression and anxiety because of not having any friend. Therefore they feel inferiorty complex and do not speak with foreign citizens.

Furthermore, people can also deal with the problems for not getting an employment in different language countries. This is because the native countries give preferance to their own people first, that's why migrated workers may face language barriers. Similarly, students also have to speak a foreign language, sometimes they do not get a chance to enroll themselves in good universities. For example, in foreign countries the migrated students and employees are doing work as a waiter or sweeper because they do not get better opportunities.

In conclusion, people who have residence in abroad, they have to speak a foreign language so they cope with numerous issues. i strongly agree with this because they feel hesitant to communicate in other languages and they may get a problem of any employment or studies.
