Student answer (Band 6.0)

Languages play an integral part in the accomplishment of an effective conversation. Some people advocate that residing in a country where one has to speak a foreign language consistently can ultimately result in a bundle of social and practical issues. I disagree with this notion.

The most compelling argument in favour of this view is that speaking common language of one'residing country can prove to be extremely beneficial in streamlining the daily operations such as seamless shopping experience, enahnced navigation as a result of understanding of local signs and labels, effectively tackling any medical stituations and meeting professional demands efficiently. Hence providing evidence that making an effort to speak a foreign language reap all kinds of benefits and not presumed issues.

Another supporting argument for this notion is that acquiring a foreign language can primarily help build deep and meaningful relationships with the community members, allowing enhanced effective interations. A community plays a significant role in catering to the needs and nurturing can provide foreign residents the warm feeling of home away from home. Since making an exceptional effort to speak a different language resonates with all the local citizens on an emotional level. This can also lead to development of patriotic emotions along with a sense of loyalty.

To sum it up , learning and speaking the language of a country in which one is residing can ultimately provide countless benefits such as effective communication, meaningful relationships and achievement of work targets instead of presumed problems, on all types of fronts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response presents a clear position throughout, as you state 'I disagree with this notion' regarding the claim that speaking a foreign language causes serious problems. You address all parts of the task by discussing both practical and social aspects of living in a foreign country. However, there is a contradiction in your second paragraph where you argue in favour of the view that speaking the local language brings benefits, which actually supports the prompt's premise rather than your stated disagreement. You meant to argue that learning the language prevents problems or that the problems are overstated, but the execution of your arguments is slightly confused. Ideas are extended with examples such as shopping and building relationships, earning you a band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is coherent overall with a clear logical arrangement into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'The most compelling argument in favour of this view is that...' directly contradicts your stated thesis that you disagree with the view. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally problematic, as seen in phrases like 'Hence providing evidence that...' which results in a fragment rather than a complete sentence. Logical progression is also hindered by the conceptual confusion in the second paragraph, though overall the text remains easy to follow, supporting a band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'integral part', 'streamlining', 'interations', and 'patriotic emotions'. However, there are several noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. For example, you wrote 'speaking common language of one'residing country', 'enahnced navigation', 'medical stituations', and 'reap all kinds of benefits'. There are also minor mechanical issues with apostrophes and spelling ('interations' instead of 'interactions'). Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded, and your vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey your meaning, corresponding to a band 6.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and participial phrases such as 'allowing enhanced effective interations' and 'Since making an exceptional effort to speak a different language resonates...'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Notably, you produce sentence fragments, such as 'Hence providing evidence that...' and starting a sentence with 'Since making an exceptional effort...' without attaching it to an independent clause. There are also punctuation issues, such as missing spaces before commas ('sum it up ,') and minor agreement errors. These errors occur regularly but do not completely obscure your meaning, placing your grammatical control at a band 5.5.
