Student answer (Band 5.5)
In past, a country contained population of single speaking language, communication was very easy. Today, many people are emmigrating to different countries and there residents meet people with different mother tongue. However, it is argued by many that Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems. In this esay, I will state some points in favour and against of this notion.
On the one hand, people are moving to foreign countries for study or to find job. speaking a foreign language can cause difficulty in communication with other residents, as when people from different nationalities meet, they tend to speak their mother tongue as a result they cannot understand each other. Apart from it, in foreign countries mostly signs are written in their national language, hence it can cause the immigrants to get confused in navigation and they may end up getting lost. Not only this, when people are unable to make friend due to language barries, they many feel home sickness and it become a nightmare for them to live there owing to they decide to go back to their country.
On the other hand, nowadays there are no such language barriers exist, as mostly residents know english and they can communicate easily in that language. What is more, there are many application are persent on internet, which can translate the conversation of speaker and listener. Lastly, a country make sure that a person knows their language before moving to their country, there are special language tests to check his abilty. For instance IELTS, PTE, toffel etc.
In conclusion, I believe that in today's fastly moving world language has no significance as people are multilingual and technology such as translators also played a crucial role.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student addresses all parts of the task, presenting arguments both in favour of and against the notion that speaking a foreign language causes problems. In the introduction, the writer outlines their intention to discuss both sides, although the position could be stated more explicitly throughout. The ideas presented in the body paragraphs, such as communication difficulties, navigation issues, and the availability of translation technology, are relevant and extended, though some points like the mandatory language tests lack full development. The conclusion clearly reflects the writer's personal stance. Overall, the response meets the requirements for Band 6.0 as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, even though some areas require deeper exploration.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a clear overall arrangement and logical paragraphing, with an introduction, two distinct body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as "On the one hand", "On the other hand", and "In conclusion". However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, phrases like "owing to they decide to go back" exhibit awkward transitions and grammatical linking errors. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but internal progression within paragraphs occasionally feels disjointed due to run-on sentences and punctuation issues. These features align the response firmly with Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for the task, including terms like "emmigrating", "mother tongue", "navigation", and "multilingual". However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors throughout the text, such as "In past" instead of "In the past", "single speaking language" instead of "single language", "esay" instead of "essay", "barries" instead of "barriers", "home sickness", and "fastly moving". Despite these frequent errors and awkward word choices, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the core message, and meaning is rarely impeded. These characteristics correspond directly to the Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors, warranting a Band 5.5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, tense consistency, and article usage. Examples include "Today, many people are emmigrating... and there residents meet", "mostly signs are written", "when people are unable to make friend due to language barries, they many feel home sickness", and "there are many application are persent on internet". These errors frequently cause strain for the reader and demonstrate limited control over complex sentence structures. Consequently, the performance fits the Band 5 descriptor, where frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause difficulty.
