Student answer (Band 4.5)
In today's rapidly growing world, living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language has become a matter of considerable debate. Some people believe it can cause seriuos social problems, other argues that it leads toward practical problems. I strongly agree with this view, as accuring new language is long process due to which we are not able to interact with people, most of the people in foreign country has language problem which ultimately has impact on getting the professional jobs, while some people dont able to make firends in which lead them toward the isolation, beacause the interaction is key element in social networking , it can cause the misunderstaing between interaction. One of the main reasons why foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems is due to our cognitive development slow down for learning language in early adulthood. This is because learning ability for new language is high in childhood, as result in later ages the prcoess slow down

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The student attempts to address the prompt by agreeing that living in a foreign language environment causes social and practical problems. However, the response falls severely short of the required word count, containing only 169 words compared to the minimum of 250 words. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas. While a position is presented, the arguments regarding job opportunities and isolation are rushed and under-developed due to the truncation of the essay, and the response lacks a concluding paragraph. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, which heavily penalises this criterion. To improve, the writer must ensure all prompts are explored fully with extended examples and meet the word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The essay lacks proper paragraphing, consisting of a single massive block of text containing the entire response, which severely hinders the logical flow and visual organisation of the essay. Furthermore, cohesive devices are weak, repetitive, or misused, such as the abrupt transitions using 'while some people dont able' and 'beacause the interaction is key element'. There is no clear progression of ideas, and the run-on sentence structure creates a confusing reading experience. To achieve a higher score, the student must divide their writing into distinct paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and use a wider, more accurate range of logical connectors to link ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and displays frequent spelling and word choice errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples of vocabulary errors include 'seriuos' for serious, 'accuring' for acquiring, 'firends' for friends, and 'misunderstaing' for misunderstanding. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'cognitive development' and 'social networking', but these are offset by basic errors like 'dont able' instead of 'are unable'. To improve, the student needs to expand their vocabulary related to society and language learning, pay closer attention to spelling, and learn standard collocations rather than translating directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, heavily dominated by long, run-on complex sentences that lack proper punctuation. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'other argues' instead of 'others argue', 'is long process' missing an article, and 'prcoess slow down' containing a typographical error and lacking tense agreement. Additionally, subject-verb agreement issues are prominent, as seen in 'most of the people... has language problem'. The majority of sentences contain noticeable errors, and punctuation is largely neglected, making the text difficult to parse. Practising sentence boundary punctuation and basic subject-verb agreement will greatly benefit the writer.
