Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Staying in a nation where you have to communicate in a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems. I strongly agree with the argument, because being a native speaker a citizen find speaking another language frustrating and will create problems in daily life. Hence, it will create social and practical problems.

One of the reason for it being a problem is that a country has its own history, and humans tend to take pride on their history and cultures. These factors will create a sense of hatered among the citizens for speaking another language rather than a native language. A native speaker will have to communicate in another language for communicating with others, this activity will create more hurdles. The reason for that is that people will face difficulty in proving ideas to another language speaker. Therefore, this establishment can cause many societal issues.

The problems that may arise in daily life tasks like asking for direction or communicating in a office gets difficult. This problems has raised over the time, because of increase in migration. The imigrants communicating in their own language will change the language model of a country. For instance, English speaker living in london find difficulty in some areas to communicate as the imigrants do not speak English properly.

In conclusion, living in a country where you have to speak in another language can cause societal issues as well as practical issues. I completely agree with the arguement that it is a negative development.
