Student answer (Band 5.0)

Living in a country where you have speak a foreign language can cause serious social issues, as well as practical issues. In my opinion, I completely agree with this statement. It create practical problems such as hospital and job issues. Social issues like communcation barrier and somethings else.

On the one hand, many students are going to abroad where they speak other language so it create a lot of soical problems such as communcation they cannot easily conservation with other people. In addition, when they study so they cannot understanding the language and they are suffer for this. Furthermore, they feel social isolation because they cannot communcation with other people. For instance, when some students cannot understanding english so they feel frightened.

On the other hand, speaking foreign language can also create practical problems such as hospital issues because when you are going to hospital so you cannot understanding the doctor instruction. In addition, you can face the jobs opperunities because languages is mandatory in the jobs. For example, if the people cannot understanding the language so they cannot servival for those country because they cannot find out the work. Moreover, they are also face for transporation issues because they cannot understanding languages.

In conclusion, in my view, I strongly agree with this statement becasue speaking a foreign language can create soical problems when people struggle to communcation with local residents, which may lead to misunderstandings and social isolation as well as practical issues like hospital and so on.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both social and practical problems associated with speaking a foreign language in a new country, taking a clear position of complete agreement. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and repetitive. For example, the mention of 'hospital and job issues' in the introduction is echoed in the body paragraphs, but the arguments lack specific depth or elaboration. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains 247 words, falling just short of the 250-word minimum. This necessitates a penalty under Task Achievement. Because the main parts of the task are addressed and a clear stance is maintained despite the under-length issue and limited development, the response fits the Band 5 descriptor well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs with a basic introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing some organisation. However, progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and inadequate or inaccurate cohesive devices. Transitions such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used, but sentences within paragraphs are often linked mechanically using repetitive structures like 'because they cannot' and 'In addition'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'somethings else' in the introduction, and paragraphing logic is weakened by the thin content within the body sections. Overall, the coherence aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently recycling words like 'problems', 'language', 'understanding', and 'communication' throughout the text. There are notable word choice and word formation errors, such as 'communcation barrier', 'conservational with other people' instead of converse, and 'jobs opperunities' instead of job opportunities. Less common vocabulary is attempted with significant inaccuracy, such as 'servival for those country'. These errors occasionally cause strain for the reader, fitting the profile of Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('It create practical problems', 'languages is mandatory'), missing auxiliary verbs ('where you have speak'), and awkward phrasing ('they are suffer for this', 'they are also face for transporation issues'). While the meaning can generally be extracted, these frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a Band 5 performance.
