Student answer (Band 6.0)
I'm of the opinion that residing in a city where i have to communicate in a foreign language can have serious social repercussions as well as pratical problems like lonliness, feeling left out among your peers, and mental depression.
Before moving to a new country, people will always advise that you should learn how to speak the country language so as to make life easier for you, but some people find it hard to learn a new language, but they still try their best to learn one.
Living in a country where you can't speak their language can limit you in some many ways, like making new friends, having limited job opportunities, not acheiving your goal you set out for yourself, or not experiencing the country culture properly and the effect of this is that it can put into depression, make you feel lonely, and make it seem like you aren't moving foward.
For example, someone travelling to italy as a student might think it's not important to learn italian, that English is enough, he or she got there and realised that before you can get a side job you have to be able to communicate in italian, and this has given the person a little bit of disadvantage and no job.
There are also some pratical problems that comes with not speaking a foreign language, example is when you want to go buy something in the market, you have to ask indingens for road directions, you have to be able to communicate with market sellers when you want to buy something, and you not understanding their language as limited you.
In conclusion, i agree that living in a country where you can't speak their language can cause serious social and pratical problems and you have to make effort to learn the language if you don't want to be lonely, or feel left out.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the social and practical problems of living in a country where you do not speak the language, and provides a clear position agreeing with the prompt. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the student studying in Italy or buying items in a market. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or remain slightly repetitive, particularly around the emotional impacts like depression and loneliness. The development is generally sufficient for a Band 6.5 or 7, but minor gaps in fully extending every single point keep it aligned with Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing social and practical issues, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used adequately, and ideas progress logically from one point to the next. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or repetitive, relying heavily on basic conjunctions and clauses rather than flexible cohesive devices. Referencing can occasionally be imprecise, such as shifts between pronouns (e.g., 'you', 'somebody', 'he or she'). Overall, the structural progression is clear enough to satisfy Band 6 criteria.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying meaning with phrases like 'social repercussions', 'limited job opportunities', and 'experiencing the country culture'. However, there are several noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'pratical' (practical), 'lonliness' (loneliness), 'acheiving' (achieving), 'foward' (forward), and 'indingens' (indigenous/locals). Furthermore, attempts at less common vocabulary occasionally result in awkward word choices or collocations, limiting the lexical score to a 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as capitalization issues ('i', 'italy', 'italian'), punctuation omissions, and awkward clause constructions (e.g., 'and this has given the person a little bit of disadvantage and no job' or 'and you not understanding their language as limited you'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur regularly enough to prevent the response from reaching Band 6.0 fully.
