In this contemporary era, living in other nations is like a trend and for that individuals have to face certain difficulties such as language barrier along with some cultural differences as their way of living completely changes. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the required word count of at least 250 words, stopping abruptly after just 81 words. While the writer manages to state a clear position in the introduction indicating complete agreement with the prompt regarding the social and practical problems of living in a foreign country, the ideas remain extremely limited and underdeveloped. There is no body paragraph to support the thesis with reasons or relevant examples from the writer's own knowledge or experience. To improve to a higher band, the student must ensure the response is well over the minimum word count and fully develop distinct arguments with relevant explanations and examples for each side or stance taken.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently due to the extreme brevity of the text, presenting only a short introduction and a truncated second paragraph. Although basic paragraph breaks are attempted, there is no discernible overall progression because the essay lacks the necessary body paragraphs to develop an argument. Cohesive devices are largely absent beyond simple conjunctions like 'and', making the text feel disjointed. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to organise ideas logically across a full multi-paragraph essay, ensuring clear progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a conclusion, supported by a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices and clear referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range that strains communication at times. The student makes noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as writing 'different nation' instead of 'a different country' and using 'serous' (spelling error for 'serious'). Phrasing such as 'consequences about languages' lacks natural collocation, and 'residing in abroad' contains a preposition error. To reach a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire to include less common and more precise vocabulary, while paying closer attention to word choice, correct word forms, spelling, and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures. While the writer attempts a complex sentence with 'Nowadays, living in different nation where many people...', the attempt is flawed by missing articles and frequent errors. There are frequent grammatical mistakes throughout the short text, including missing articles ('in different nation', 'in abroad') and awkward prepositions. These errors are intrusive and can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures, including error-free complex sentences, and improve control over basic grammar rules such as article usage and prepositional patterns.
