Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task partially, touching upon both social and practical problems caused by living abroad without knowing the local language, such as communication barriers, isolation, and difficulties finding a job or accessing medical care. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, relying on basic repetition rather than extended explanation or specific real-world examples. Furthermore, the response is critically short, containing only 202 words, which clearly fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words. To move to a higher band, the writer must fully develop each main point with detailed elaboration and ensure the essay meets the required word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization with a clear attempt to introduce the topic, present supporting ideas in the body paragraphs, and conclude. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the paragraphing is poor, resulting in a clumped block of text in the second half. Cohesive devices are largely inadequate, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as sudden shifts using phrases like 'On the other hand if he a men goes...' without proper logical transitions. Referencing is also weak, with pronouns like 'he' and 'her' being misused inconsistently throughout the text. To improve, the writer needs to logical sequence paragraphs, use a wider variety of cohesive devices accurately, and maintain clear referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for expressing basic concepts. The writer attempts some less common terms and phrases, such as 'social activites' and 'critical isssue', but these are marred by noticeable spelling mistakes and awkward word choices, including 'survie', 'forieign', 'necessery', 'toung', and 'isssue'. There are also persistent word form and collocation errors, such as 'participating on social activites' instead of 'in', and 'admitted on hospital' instead of 'to a hospital'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range and eliminate basic spelling and word choice errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors in nearly every sentence, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Living in a country... have produced', incorrect article usage, pronoun gender confusion ('describe her problem', 'he will no make friends'), and tense inconsistencies. Prepositions inside grammatical patterns are frequently misused. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and distort meaning at times. To reach the next band, the writer needs to improve structural variety and gain better control over basic sentence construction, verb forms, and subject-verb agreement.
