Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing clear agreement with the statement that living in a foreign-language country causes serious social and practical problems. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed throughout the essay. While the writer introduces relevant points such as the language barrier and navigation difficulties, these ideas are supported with very vague or flawed examples, such as referencing World War 2 without clear contextual relevance or mentioning a YouTube personality. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum two hundred and fifty words, further restricting the depth and completeness of the task response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation present with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but the overall progression lacks clarity and logical flow. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the overuse of transitional phrases like 'First of all' and 'In addition'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the conclusion is abrupt and incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the exact line of argument from one sentence to the next, which places the essay firmly within this band level.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and contains noticeable errors that cause difficulty and strain for the reader. There are frequent issues with word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, such as 'Accomodationg' instead of living, 'pratical' instead of practical, and 'infamiliar' instead of unfamiliar. Attempts to use less common vocabulary result in awkward collocations and inaccurate forms, such as 'massive misunderstanding cause due to unfamilar langauge' and 'strained at unknow place'. These persistent lexical inaccuracies restrict the vocabulary to a minimally adequate range for completing basic communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent, frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that cause difficulty for the reader, including problems with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and awkward clause structures. Examples include 'langauge barrier which leads towards masive misunderstanding', 'If an individual is not able to speak their native langauge will have increasng chances', and sentences that break down entirely in terms of grammatical integrity. Punctuation is also poorly managed, contributing to fragmented ideas.
