Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued by some individuals that spending your time in such an nation where you have to communicate in non native language can lead to serious social issues along with some practical obstacles.

I totally disagree with this statement and in this essay I give reasons to support my thinking.

To commense with, if you don't have much information about the foreign language and you are visitor in any other country use technology as your assistant like AI or many other apps that are available on Play store for your help. For instance, you need to communicate with the foreigner to fullfil your need use AI to convert your speaking into their native language and in the same way it will convert their native language to your understanding language.

In this way you can also can take help from technology to solve your practical problems.

On the other hand, learning about some other languages also good to know about their cultures. For example, i have some knowledge about Korean language and when i visit Korea it helped a lot during my visit it also helped to understand the Korean culture in a batter way. Furthermore I also made some Korean friends that are currently connected with me on my social media accounts.

To summarise it, a batter use of technology and simple understanding of that language can help anyone for living their. We can also solve our practical issues there by communicating in non native language.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt partially, taking a clear stance against the statement, but the ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the suggestion to use apps like AI to solve practical problems is mentioned briefly without deep elaboration or specific real-world consequences. Additionally, the length requirement is not met, as the essay falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum, containing 248 words. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to present fully developed ideas with extended explanations and well-supported examples that thoroughly address both social and practical aspects of living in a foreign country.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident through basic signposting such as 'To commense with' and 'On the other hand', but the overall progression lacks clarity and flow. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, as seen with repeated structures and mechanical transitions. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is somewhat disjointed, particularly within the body paragraphs where points about technology and language learning are mixed together. To improve, the writer should ensure each paragraph has a clear central topic, apply a wider and more accurate range of cohesive links, and establish a smoother, more logical progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('commense', 'fullfil', 'batter') and awkward word choices ('such an nation', 'non native language', 'understanding language') that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary is restricted and relies heavily on repetitive phrasing. To move up to a higher band, the student must incorporate a wider variety of less common lexical items with greater precision in word choice, collocation, and spelling control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('as visitor in any other country'), preposition errors ('living their' instead of 'there'), and incorrect verb forms ('you can also can take help'). These errors require the reader to occasionally puzzle over the meaning. To achieve a higher level, the student needs to produce a better mix of simple and complex sentence structures with significantly fewer errors in grammar and punctuation.
