Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position of complete agreement and attempts to discuss both social and practical problems associated with speaking a foreign language. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear. For instance, the discussion on social problems mentions homesickness and loneliness, but the supporting points quickly drift into unclear assertions such as changing behaviour and discrimination between work and study, which lack clear logical connection. Similarly, practical problems like renting houses or dealing with emergencies are mentioned briefly but remain under-developed without sufficient elaboration or concrete examples. The ideas are presented in a somewhat repetitive manner, which restricts the depth of the argument and keeps the task response at a limited level of development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, indicating an attempt to structure the response. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the text. Paragraphing is used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by mechanical and inadequate use of cohesive devices. Transitional phrases like 'To began with' and 'Moving further' are used, but referencing is often unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun use ('they feel them to live and homesick'). Furthermore, repetitive sentence patterns and missing links between clauses make the logical sequence difficult to follow at times, resulting in a choppy and disjointed reading experience.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, representing a limited and minimally adequate range for this task. The student relies heavily on simple words and makes numerous errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that cause noticeable difficulty for the reader. Examples of lexical strain include 'number od individual', 'languag', 'lifetsyle', and awkward phrasings like 'grocery time beacuse they can explain which service they need'. There are frequent attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'discrimination' or 'emergency', but these are used inaccurately in terms of collocation and context, reflecting a restricted control over lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammar demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('shift to abroad', 'in working place'), incorrect verb forms ('people faces', 'that suffered by indivdual'), faulty prepositions, and severe punctuation errors that frequently cause difficulty for the reader and sometimes obscure the intended meaning. For instance, sentences such as 'The problem that suffered by indivdual in renting houses, , grocery time beacuse they can explain which service they need' exhibit a breakdown in basic syntactic structures and a lack of grammatical control.
