Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt partially, expressing a clear disagreement with the statement and touching upon both job opportunities and communication. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of how learning a foreign language improves memory and problem-solving skills deviates slightly from the core social and practical problems outlined in the prompt. Furthermore, the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 200 words instead of the required 250 words. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and fully develop their main arguments with more relevant explanations and examples while meeting the required word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation present with a basic introduction and body paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the essay. Cohesive devices are used repetitively and sometimes inaccurately, such as relying heavily on phrases like 'by which' and 'One of the major reason on this viewpoint'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the conclusion is incomplete and abruptly cuts off in the middle of a sentence ('To conclude, even though there are several reason on this viewpoint which are mentioned above, which seems practical.'). To improve, the writer should ensure a logical flow of ideas, use a wider variety of cohesive devices accurately, and write a complete concluding paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'ehance' instead of enhance, 'problem sloving' instead of problem solving, and 'differnet' instead of different. The writer also uses repetitive phrasing, such as 'major reason on this viewpoint'. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range, incorporate less common vocabulary with greater precision, and eliminate spelling and word formation errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic complex patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of grammatical errors include missing auxiliary verbs ('where you have speak a other language'), incorrect prepositions ('One of the major reason on this viewpoint'), and pronoun agreement issues ('it people travel... you can talk'). To progress, the writer needs to practice constructing complex sentences accurately and improve control over basic grammatical agreements, verb forms, and articles.
