Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer expresses a clear position agreeing with the prompt, the ideas presented remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the example about 'person x' wanting to study in Japan introduces a relevant point about practical and social struggles, but it lacks sufficient elaboration and relies on generalized assertions rather than fully supported arguments. Furthermore, terms like 'mothertounge' and some prompt misunderstandings regarding language use slightly obscure the main argument. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend their ideas fully, providing more robust, detailed explanations and fully developed examples for both practical and social problems.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organization present in the essay, dividing the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the text. The transitions between paragraphs feel mechanical and abrupt, particularly with phrases like 'In todays period of time' and 'In additonal'. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun usage in the final sentence. To achieve a stronger score, the writer must ensure a smoother logical progression from one paragraph to the next and use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable lexical errors and issues with word formation and spelling throughout the text, such as 'habitant' instead of 'inhabitant', 'mothertounge', 'inorder', 'japenese', 'base prolem', 'lonley', and 'restricted them for further visits'. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve in this area, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to spelling and word forms, and attempt less common lexical items with greater precision and awareness of collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic compound-complex forms. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to noticeable grammar errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('many people wants', 'some people likes'), missing articles, and run-on sentences without proper punctuation, as seen in 'if that person x went there without knowing japanese language they have to face daily base prolem...'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To move up to the next band, the writer should incorporate a greater variety of complex grammatical structures with significantly higher accuracy.
