Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent times, living in a foreign country where people have to comunicate in another language has become a very popular topic of discussion around the world and it create several difficulties such as social or practical problems. Some people agree with this idea, while others strongly disagree. In my opinion, I agree that to comunicate in another language has many advantages for society and individuals.
On the one hand, there are several good reasons to support this view.
Firstly, it helps us to comunicate with different types of people and also helps to makes relationship with people by comunicating, which is extremely important for everyone in our daily life. For example, in future if you have a chance to live in foriegn country you must need to learnt thier language. It allows you to complete your tasks much faster and more efficiently.
Secondly, it helps individuals to achieve better results in our personal and practical life. Therefore, this trend provides clear benefits to modern society and we will not face problems while shoping or visiting a doctor.
On the other hand, some people have different opinions about comunicate in another language. They believe that it would be difficult to speak and can cause some unexpected problems for the public. However, I believe these issues can be managed easily with proper care and planning.
In conclusion, I believe that to comunicate people in another language is very beneficial for society overall. People should focus on the positive aspects to learnt foreign language and to make their lives better in the future."

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response recognises the topic and gives a position, but it does not answer the question accurately or develop the required argument. The prompt asks whether having to speak a foreign language can cause serious social and practical problems; instead, the essay mainly argues that communicating in another language is beneficial. The opening even says, “I agree,” but then presents advantages, leaving the extent of agreement unclear. The examples about shopping and visiting a doctor are relevant to practical communication, yet they are used to claim there will be no problems rather than explain the difficulties the question raises. To improve, state a consistent position on the problems and develop specific social and practical consequences with supporting examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable essay structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. These paragraph breaks help the reader identify the main sections. However, progression is limited: the first body paragraph lists benefits, the second briefly mentions opposing concerns, and the conclusion repeats the benefits without resolving the mismatch in the argument. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Therefore” are used, but connections between claims are sometimes unclear; for example, the claim about achieving better results is followed by a broad statement about shopping and doctors. Organise each paragraph around one clear reason, explain how it supports your position, and use referencing and transitions to show the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the general topic, using relevant terms such as “foreign country,” “practical problems,” “public,” and “proper care and planning.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “communicate,” “problems,” and “helps.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “make relationship,” “achieve better results in our personal and practical life,” and “to communicate people in another language.” Spelling errors such as “comunicate,” “foriegn,” “thier,” and “shoping” are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the writing. Build a wider set of precise expressions for language barriers and their effects, and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay uses mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to extend ideas through clauses such as “if you have a chance to live in foreign country” and “while shopping or visiting a doctor.” However, attempts at more complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “it create several difficulties,” “helps to makes relationship,” “you must need to learnt,” and “to communicate people in another language.” These show problems with subject–verb agreement, verb forms, infinitives, and sentence construction. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a supporting clause, and check agreement and verb forms before adding more complex structures.
