Student answer (Band 6.5)
Living in a coutry where you do not know the local language creates many challenges. I completely agree that language barriers cause both practical daily problems and social difficulty.
On a practical level, simple doing daily tasks become very hard without knowing the language. Basic activities like buying foods, taking public transport, make shopping, and paying bills can be confusing. More importantly, serious situations like visiting doctors or understanding a work contract require clear communication. Misunderstanding medical or legal advice can lead to big problems. In addition, finding a good job is difficult because most companies prefer workers who speak the local language fluently.
Socially, the inability to speak the native language leads to deep isolation and cultural disconnect. Language is the primary tool for building relationships and understanding local social norms. When imigrants can not express themselves fluently, making meaningful friendships with locals becomes nearly impossible. This often results in social seperation and mental stress. Consequently, non-native speakers tend to form isolated communities with others from their home countries. While this provides temporary comfort, it prevents true integration into the broader society and can sometimes lead to misunderstandings or bias between native residents and immigrants.
In conclusion, not knowing the local language in a foreign country causes major practical troubles and social loneliness. Learning the languege is the most important step to living a happy life abroad.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that language barriers create practical and social difficulties, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both parts of the statement with relevant points, including difficulty accessing healthcare and work, and isolation from local people. The practical examples are persuasive, but some claims—such as making friendships becoming “nearly impossible”—are broad and would benefit from qualification or a specific example. The point about isolated communities is relevant but could be explained further to show how it affects integration. The response also falls 22 words short of the required minimum, so there is less space to develop and support these ideas. Add a concrete example and extend the less-developed points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs separate practical and social problems, and a conclusion summarises your position. This paragraphing makes the main ideas easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “On a practical level,” “Socially,” and “In conclusion” effectively. Within the body paragraphs, however, several examples are presented as lists, so the links between them and the main claim can feel somewhat abrupt. For instance, the list of daily tasks could be followed by a sentence explaining how a language barrier creates confusion in one specific situation. The transition from social isolation to bias is also quick. Develop these links and use referencing or transitions more flexibly to make the progression feel less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “language barriers,” “cultural disconnect,” “meaningful friendships,” “social separation,” and “integration.” These choices help distinguish practical difficulties from social consequences. Some word choices and collocations are less natural or precise, however: “buying foods,” “make shopping,” “major practical troubles,” and “living a happy life abroad” could be expressed more idiomatically. There are also spelling errors in “coutry,” “imigrants,” “seperation,” and “languege,” which are noticeable even though the meaning remains clear. To strengthen your vocabulary, check spelling carefully and choose precise collocations; for example, describe “shopping” rather than “make shopping,” and use “practical difficulties” rather than “practical troubles.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, and several sentences are controlled well, such as “Language is the primary tool for building relationships and understanding local social norms.” The sentence beginning “While this provides temporary comfort” also shows an attempt to express contrast within a complex structure. Some grammatical errors remain. In “simple doing daily tasks become very hard,” the subject construction and verb agreement are faulty; “simply doing daily tasks becomes very hard” would be more accurate. In the list “buying foods, taking public transport, make shopping, and paying bills,” the forms are not parallel. “When imigrants can not express themselves fluently, making meaningful friendships…” also shifts awkwardly from a clause to a gerund phrase. Review agreement and keep list items and sentence structures parallel.
