Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify the topic and state a clear position: “I strongly agree,” which directly answers the extent question. You also introduce a relevant concern—communication barriers. However, the response stops before explaining how language difficulties create serious social or practical problems, and it gives no reasons, examples, or developed supporting points. The task asks you to discuss both kinds of problems and support your view; these parts are therefore largely unaddressed. The response is also substantially below the required minimum length, leaving the argument incomplete. To improve, develop at least two distinct reasons, such as difficulty accessing services and forming relationships, and illustrate each with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic progression from introducing migration and the issue to stating your opinion, and the final sentence signals that you intend to explain your view. This gives the short response some overall direction. However, the argument does not progress beyond the introduction, so there are no developed paragraphs or clear links between supporting ideas. The phrase “while some people argue with this idea” introduces a contrast, but the opposing view is not explained, and “This essay will discuss” promises development that does not follow. Organise the response into an introduction, separate body paragraphs for your main reasons, and a conclusion. Use linking expressions to show how each example supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use several relevant expressions, including “greener pastures,” “detrimental impact,” and “communication barrier,” showing some ability to choose topic-related vocabulary. The meaning is generally understandable, but the range is narrow because the response contains only an introduction, and some phrasing is imprecise or awkward. For example, “another country which does not speak your native language” describes the country as speaking, rather than its people, and “communication barrier” would be more natural as “communication barriers” or “a language barrier.” “Argue with this idea” is also less idiomatic than “disagree with this view.” Build a wider set of precise terms for social isolation, public services, employment, and everyday interactions, and check collocations when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response includes a complex opening sentence and a subordinate clause beginning “while,” alongside simpler statements, so there is an attempt to vary sentence structure. Most of the intended meaning can be followed. However, control is inconsistent: “individuals are migrating” shifts into a present-progressive form where a general present (“individuals migrate”) would be more suitable, and “a country which does not speak your native language” has an unclear grammatical subject. There are also punctuation and capitalisation problems, including missing spaces after commas and the lowercase “while” after a full stop. The short response offers limited evidence of sustained accuracy or a wider range of structures. Practise forming clear complex sentences and proofread sentence boundaries, agreement, and punctuation.
