Student answer (Band 6.0)

If a person is living in a country where he cannot speak their native language, then it can cause many challenges while connecting with locals and solving daily problems. I strongly agree with this view because language barrier is an obstacle which limit people from communicating with the citizens. Additionally, it could create a real struggle for those individuals who are looking for a job to manage their expenses.

First of all, having little or no knowledge about the native language can cause an issue in communicating and making friends with the local community. This is mainly because a language is the first thing through which one can interact with each other. For example, if a foreigner lost his way, he cannot simple ask to any person for help unless he use a translation application which often requires a good internet connection. As a result, it creates a barrier where they both had difficulty in understanding completely.

On the other hand, foreign languague can create employment challenges for the foreigners. For instance, if a company is hiring, they usually require at least B2 level knowledge of their local language for a position in their company. Consequently, even a person with good academic grades cannot get that job because of this obstacle. Furthermore, young peeople prefer doing odd jobs to cover their daily expenses. Therefore, it becomes quite difficult to gain practical experience in their field.

In conclusion, if a person could not speak a native language, then it can create several challenges for him such as isolation and unemployment. In my view, it is a quite challenge and create many hurdles for new comers both in connecting with the local people andgetting a better job.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that language barriers create social and practical difficulties. You address both areas with relevant examples, including difficulty asking for directions and employers requiring local-language proficiency. The conclusion also restates the main consequences. This meets the task well, but the development is uneven: the social example explains the immediate communication problem, while the employment paragraph moves quickly from hiring requirements to young people taking odd jobs without fully explaining how language ability leads to that outcome. The claim that a company “usually” requires B2-level knowledge would also benefit from qualification or a more specific example. Developing these links and explaining their effects more fully would make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for social and employment problems, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “First of all,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the main stages easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some links are mechanical or unclear. In the directions example, “As a result, it creates a barrier where they both had difficulty” does not clearly identify who “they both” refers to, and the connection between language requirements and taking odd jobs could be made more explicit. The conclusion repeats the central points rather than drawing them together. Use clearer references and add linking explanations between claims to make progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “language barrier,” “local community,” “employment challenges,” “academic grades,” and “practical experience.” These choices help communicate both social and practical consequences. However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems limit precision: “native language” is not always the intended meaning when discussing the language spoken in the country, “a quite challenge” is unnatural, and “foreign languague” and “young peeople” contain spelling errors. Phrases such as “manage their expenses” and “get that job” are understandable but general. Aim for more accurate collocations and proofread spelling; more precise expressions would make the argument sound more natural and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional clauses (“if a foreigner lost his way”) and cause-and-effect sentences (“Consequently, even a person with good academic grades cannot get that job”). The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors recur in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “language barrier is an obstacle which limit” needs an article and subject–verb agreement, while “unless he use” needs a correctly formed verb. In “a person could not speak … then it can create,” the tense and pronoun reference are not well controlled. Review agreement and verb forms, and check that pronouns clearly refer to the intended person. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
