Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that living in other country where it is necessary to speak foreign language can create many social and practical problem as well. I totally agree with this probability.

First, there are many social problems. Without understanding other people language it's difficult to understand someone. People face difficulty in making friends and it's hard to communicate with others. For example, my family relative lived in UK and he doesn't know about English language and it's difficult for him to know others. He also face difficulty in making friends and face many social issues. Also, children face difficulty in schools they don't learn syllabus easily like local students.

On the other hand, foreign language can create many practical problem as well social problems. Many daily activities need language. For example it's hard for person to find a job if he cannot speak that language. Unemployement is also due to language barrier. Employers want people who can communicate with their customer. Also facing issue during hospital visit, shopping and daily activities. If you cannot explain about your problem to doctor, it can be dangerous. Even using public transport and reading some important mails or messages difficult without language That's why immigrants get low paid jobs.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that living in foreign country cannot understand their language create many social and practical problems. People face many issues regarding to language barrier. Somehow, in foreign countries students are bullying in schools for just language barrier. Government need to held online classes for various language courses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening—“I totally agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both social effects, such as difficulty making friends and children struggling at school, and practical effects, including finding work, communicating with doctors, and using transport. These relevant examples show that you understand the task. The response also begins to explain consequences, for instance linking language barriers with unemployment and low-paid jobs. To develop the argument further, explain these links more fully and make the examples more precise; the account of your relative, for example, could show a specific social consequence. The final suggestion about government language classes is relevant but arrives abruptly and could be connected more clearly to your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate discussion of social and practical problems, and a conclusion. “First” and “On the other hand” help signal the main sections, and examples generally follow the points they illustrate. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated “Also” and repeated references to difficulty. The transition “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although the paragraph adds another type of problem rather than presenting an opposing view. Some connections are unclear, particularly the conclusion’s shift to bullying and government classes. Use more precise links between each claim and its consequence, and organise related examples together so the argument develops smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “language barrier,” “unemployed,” “communicate,” and “public transport.” These terms help make the discussion relevant and understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “difficulty,” “problem,” and “language.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “my family relative,” “know others,” and “low paid jobs”; spelling errors such as “Unemployement” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and vary the vocabulary used to describe social isolation and practical obstacles. This would make your meaning clearer and give the argument a more controlled academic style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main points using simple sentences and make some attempts to combine ideas, for example, “If you cannot explain about your problem to doctor, it can be dangerous.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur across the response. Examples include missing or incorrect articles in “in other country” and “to doctor,” subject–verb agreement in “he also face,” and the incomplete construction “Even using public transport and reading some important mails or messages difficult.” Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces or sentence boundaries. Practise accurate article use, agreement, and complete sentence patterns, then add a few controlled complex sentences to explain cause and effect.
