Student answer (Band 6.5)
Staying in a country where people have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social and practical problems. These difficulties may arise because of misunderstandings and a lack of acceptance from society. I completely agree with this statement because language barriers can affect people's social relationships and employment opportunities.
Firstly, social problems may arise when individuals are unable to communicate their thoughts and opinions clearly. Due to a limited vocabulary and a lack of grammatical accuracy, people may sometimes be misunderstood. One of the biggest challenges is expressing oneself in a foreign language. For instance, a person from Gujarat might try to bargain with a stall owner in the United States but be misunderstood as someone asking for a job. Such a misunderstanding could lead to an uncomfortable situation between the two individuals.
Secondly, practical problems, such as difficulty finding a job or facing discrimination when applying for a position, can significantly affect people living abroad. One reason for these difficulties is that some individuals may not have access to suitable language teachers or guidance. Their inability to communicate effectively can make them feel embarrassed and prevent them from making a good impression on local people. Furthermore, they may face discrimination during recruitment or promotion. For example, some Indian workers living abroad may experience unfair treatment when applying for jobs or seeking promotions because of their limited language proficiency.
In conclusion, people living in foreign countries may face serious social and practical problems because of language barriers. Misunderstandings, discrimination, and difficulties in forming relationships can affect their daily lives and employment prospects.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that language barriers create social and practical problems. You address both sides of the prompt, discussing misunderstandings and relationships socially, then employment and discrimination practically. The examples help make the points relevant, particularly the bargaining misunderstanding and the job-application example. However, some ideas are asserted more than explained. For instance, the claim that limited access to language teachers causes employment difficulties is not clearly connected to the recruitment example, and the discrimination point would benefit from a more specific explanation of how language ability affects hiring or promotion. The response therefore covers the task well overall, but the development is uneven; clearer causal links and fuller support would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs separate social and practical problems, and the conclusion restates the main argument. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some links feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always fully explicit. In the second body paragraph, the move from lack of language-teaching support to discrimination in recruitment could be explained more smoothly. The conclusion also repeats several points from the introduction rather than drawing them together. Use a wider range of linking methods, including clear cause-and-effect connections and referencing, to make the flow more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “language barriers,” “grammatical accuracy,” “employment opportunities,” and “discrimination.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and some phrases show an attempt to be precise. At times, however, wording is broad or slightly unnatural. “A person from Gujarat” is a specific example but does not explain why that background matters, while “facing discrimination when applying for a position” could be expressed more precisely in relation to language proficiency. Repetition of “problems,” “difficulties,” and “language” also limits flexibility. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms, while ensuring that examples and vocabulary fit together naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because language barriers can affect…” and “when individuals are unable to communicate…”. Most sentences are clear, and punctuation generally supports the meaning. Some grammatical choices are less controlled, particularly in longer sentences where several ideas are joined. For example, “One reason for these difficulties is that some individuals may not have access to suitable language teachers or guidance” is grammatically sound, but its connection to the following claims could be made clearer through more controlled sentence structure. The response would benefit from greater variety in complex constructions and careful checking of clause relationships and parallel phrasing. These refinements would improve accuracy without sacrificing clarity.
