Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individuals assume that residing in a country where people have to speak a foreign language can create major social issues, such as isolation, also cause various practical difficulties regarding finding an employment. I strongly agree with the statement, in this essay I will discuss it further.

On the one hand, few people think that living in a nation where individuals have to verbally communicate with others with their local language can cause social isolation. This is because learning a new language can be a significant challenge for many, as they cannot learn a new language easily. This phenomenon becomes a barrier for them, and resist them to communicate with others. As a result, after a time period, they develop a mental state that they do not belong to that country which leads them to social isolation. For instance, most of the international students face this situation after moving to a country where people use different language.

Another practical issue related to this is that people often struggle to find a job. When a person migrates to a new country, they often need a employment to survive. Many job recruiters prefer a candidate who can speak their native language. In that case, if they cannot communicate through a foreign language, job searching process become more difficult for them.

In conclusion, people who live in a country where they need to use a foreign language can cuase several challenges, I firmly believe that social isolation is the one of them, and in regards of practical problems, individuals encounter tough situation to secure a job to maintain their cost of livings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you strongly agree that living where another language is spoken can create serious difficulties. You address both social problems, especially isolation, and a practical problem, finding work, and the examples about international students and recruiters are relevant. This meets the task’s main requirements. However, the two points are not developed equally: the employment paragraph explains the language barrier but gives little detail about its consequences or a specific example. The social-isolation explanation is also somewhat repetitive, particularly the repeated idea that learning a language is difficult. To strengthen the response, explain how these problems affect daily life and support each main point with a more specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for social and practical problems, and a conclusion. The progression from isolation to employment is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “As a result,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. At times, however, linking is mechanical or the relationship between ideas is not expressed smoothly. “On the one hand” suggests a contrast, but no corresponding “on the other hand” structure follows; a direct topic sentence would be more suitable. The conclusion also joins several ideas in one sentence, making the final summary less clear. Use transitions that reflect the actual relationship between points and make references between sentences more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “social isolation,” “barrier,” “recruiters,” and “migrates,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “practical difficulties” and “secure a job.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “finding an employment,” “resist them to communicate,” and “cost of livings.” The spelling error “cuase” also affects accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they limit precision and naturalness. Focus on learning common word partnerships and checking spelling; for example, use “find employment,” “prevent them from communicating,” and “living costs.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “as,” and “which,” and the main meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries. For example, “they often need a employment” should be “they often need employment” or “a job,” while “job searching process become” needs an article and a plural verb: “the job-search process becomes.” The opening sentence also joins two independent ideas with a comma, and the conclusion contains a similar comma splice. Aim to control these sentence boundaries and check agreement and articles. More accurate complex sentences would help you express the cause-and-effect relationships already present in your ideas.
