Student answer (Band 7.0)

Living in a country where the main language is unfamiliar can be challenging for newcomers. I largerly agree that this situation can cause serious social and practical problems, particularly when people have limited knowledge of the local language. However, these difficulties can often be reduced by improving their language skills.

One major social problem is the difficulty of building relationships with local people. When newcomers cannot express themselves clearly or understand conversations, they may struggle to make friends and feel isolated from the community. For example, an international students who cannot understand group discussion may find it difficult to participate in class or develop friendships with classmates. As a result, the student may experience loneliness and lose confidence when interecting with others. Over time, this lack cmommunication call make it harder for newcomers to adapt to a different culture and feel that they belong in their surroundings.

Language barriers can create practical problems because many everday activities depend on effective communication. People may struggle to understand employment requirments, complete official documents arrange accommodation, or explain their symptoms to healthcare professionals. For instance, sometimes with limited knowledge of their local language may misunderstand a doctor's instruction or make mistakes when completing important government forms. Consequently, these difficulties can increase stress, waste time, and sometimes lead to serious misunderstadings. Althiugh translation applications can be helpful, they may not always provide accurate information in complex situations.

In conclusion, I largerly agree that living ina country where people must speak a foriegn language can cause both social and practical problems. Language barrier can lead to isolation and make essential daily task more difficult. Nevertheless, learning the local language and interecting regularly with local residents can help newcomers adapt and become more independent.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you “largely agree” that language barriers cause both social and practical problems, while noting that language learning can reduce them. You address both parts of the statement and support them with relevant examples, including difficulty joining class discussions and misunderstanding medical instructions. This fits a strong response because the main ideas are extended and connected to consequences such as isolation and stress. Some support remains general, however: the examples are hypothetical, and the point about adapting to a different culture is not developed as fully as the practical-problem paragraph. To strengthen the response further, explain one example in more specific detail and show precisely how language learning or community interaction resolves the problem.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear, effective structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs separately develop social and practical effects, and the conclusion restates the position. The progression within each paragraph is generally logical, moving from a language barrier to a difficulty and then its consequence. Connectors such as “For example,” “As a result,” and “Consequently” help guide the reader, and the contrast introduced by “Nevertheless” is appropriate. At times, however, the linking is somewhat formulaic, with several sentences following the same example-and-consequence pattern. The reference in “sometimes with limited knowledge” is also unclear because it does not identify who is experiencing the problem. Use more varied transitions and make references explicit to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “isolated,” “language barriers,” “official documents,” “healthcare professionals,” and “translation applications.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and some phrases are well suited to the topic, such as “develop friendships” and “adapt to a different culture.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are noticeable, including “largerly,” “interecting,” “requirm ents,” and “misunderstadings.” There are also awkward or incomplete expressions, such as “this lack communication” and “sometimes with limited knowledge.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Proofread spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, rather than relying on approximate wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses in “When newcomers cannot express themselves clearly…” and a concessive structure in “Although translation applications can be helpful…”. Most sentences communicate their meaning, and the overall argument remains easy to follow. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, plurals, and sentence construction. For example, “an international students” has a mismatch between article and plural noun, while “this lack communication call make” contains an incomplete noun phrase and an incorrect verb form. “Complete official documents arrange accommodation” also needs clearer grammatical coordination. The half-step strength is your use of varied structures; to improve further, check agreement, articles, and clause boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly formed structure.
