Student answer (Band 5.0)

Language is a tool for communication. Without language, we cannot convey our thoughts, feelings and observation. People living in a community use specific words, signs and symbols to understand esch other. So this statement is true that living in a country where we have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social and practical problems because we cannot our thoughts and feelings to the other community members.

Language always flourishes with the help of community and if a person doesn't know the foreign language he cannot understand their norms, sarcasm, and culture. So it may cause serious social problem because if the person is a university student he cannot make good friends or a lot of friends. He feels isolated in that community. Because we feel connected through language. He cannot ask a question in his class. So it will result in his or her poot grades ot low academic marks because there is need of motivation to get good mark.

Language barrier can also create a lot of practical problems for example if he is traveling on a local bus and doesn't know the road direction. He needs some phrases to ask the right direction from a stranger. But if he cannot use a proper sentences then it will cause practical problems.

In the above passages,.we have discussed the problems that we can face as a foreign language speaker. But as for now the world has turned into a global village. so ther eis need to form proper foreign language learning academies in every country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You take a clear position in agreement and give relevant social and practical examples: difficulty making friends or asking questions at university, and needing directions while travelling by bus. These points address the prompt, but they are mostly asserted rather than explained in depth; for instance, the link between language difficulty and low academic marks needs clearer development. The conclusion shifts to recommending language academies, which does not fully summarise your argument or explain the extent of your agreement. The response is also 247 words, three words below the 250-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop each example further and finish with a direct restatement of your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on social and practical problems, and a concluding paragraph. This helps the reader follow the main topics. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt: the university example moves from making friends to asking questions and then to grades without fully connecting these effects. Linking phrases such as “So” and “Because” are repeated, and the final paragraph begins “In the above passages,” which sounds mechanical and does not create a strong conclusion. Use clearer links between cause and consequence, and make each paragraph develop one central point in a more orderly sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “language barrier,” “isolated,” “norms,” and “practical problems,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “ask the right direction,” “proper sentences,” and “good mark.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “esch,” “poot,” “ot,” and “ther eis,” which reduce the overall control of vocabulary. Aim for more precise phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, use “ask for directions” and “formulate a sentence” rather than the less natural expressions in the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if a person doesn't know the foreign language” and a reason clause beginning “because.” However, the range remains limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to process. Examples include “we cannot our thoughts and feelings,” which is missing a verb, and “if he cannot use a proper sentences,” where the determiner and plural noun do not agree. The sentence beginning “Because we feel connected through language” is also incomplete. Practise building complete sentences with accurate subject–verb patterns, articles, and singular/plural forms, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
