Student answer (Band 5.5)

This is an ongoing topic of debate these days that living in a country where you need to speak foreging language can create many complications and also face practical challenges for any individual. In this esssay I will discuss both perspectives before presenting my own opinion.

First and foremost, speaking a foreign language for any individual is not easy task. It is a time consuming process and need proper focus. Speaking a foreign language can create social problems. For instnace it really hard for new speaker to understand the native speaker and sometime native understand different perspective and that is not your meaning. It can create conficts between native and forigner. Sometime new speaker face difficulties to build a relationship with native people and new speaker can feel left out. Moreover, finding a job where the language is not your native language and you have to learn new language. An individual face many hardlles getting job and if get a job to communciate at job with their collegues. Therefore it can be serious practical problems of anyone.

On the other hand, many people believe that it has many benefits for any individual; he can get exposure and get opportunity learn new culture and interact with others. Speaking new language increase their knowledge and boost their confidence. Furthermore, speaking foreign language offers many job oppertunities. Therefore individuals can change change their future and can achive something big in a developed country.

In conclusion, although speaking a foreign language have many advanatages, there are serious social and practical complications. In my opinion, I agree with the question statement that foreign language can casue serious problems because we are not native speaker sometime we can make mistake to giving an opinion which can create problems for us.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both the problems in the prompt and the possible benefits, and your conclusion makes your position clear: “I agree with the question statement.” The examples about misunderstandings, feeling left out, and difficulty communicating at work are relevant. However, the response only partly develops the argument. For instance, the claim that misunderstandings can cause conflict is not illustrated with a specific situation, and the practical difficulties of finding and doing a job are mentioned but not explained in detail. The benefits paragraph also shifts attention away from the question without showing how they affect your overall level of agreement. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of one or two examples and make clear why the problems outweigh—or do not outweigh—the benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on problems, a paragraph on benefits, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “First and foremost,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “Moreover,” “Therefore,” and “Sometime.” Some links are also unclear: the sentence beginning “Moreover, finding a job…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding point, and “Therefore it can be serious practical problems” does not clearly refer back to a specific idea. Improve cohesion by grouping related points, using clearer references, and varying transitions rather than relying on formulaic linkers.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “social problems,” “native speaker,” “build a relationship,” “left out,” and “job opportunities.” These choices make the main ideas understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “foreign language,” “problems,” and “individual.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as “foreging,” “conficts,” “hardlles,” and “communciate,” which can distract the reader. Some combinations are unnatural, for example “change their future” and “achive something big.” Build a more precise range for discussing language barriers, employment, and social integration, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a contrast between the problems and benefits and a concluding sentence beginning “although.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “it really hard for new speaker,” “native understand different perspective,” and “speaking foreign language have many advanatages,” where articles, verb forms, or agreement are missing or incorrect. The sentence about finding a job is also incomplete: “Moreover, finding a job where the language is not your native language…” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, singular/plural agreement, and punctuation when joining clauses.
