Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent times, residing in a foreign country, while speaking their native language can be problematic in terms of social as well as practical meanings. I strongly agree with this statement because living in a foreign country can cause social problems, such as isolation and cultural disparity, in addition to practical problems like employment hurdles and hassles in daily errands.

Different social problems arise when a person commute to another country. These problems are either loneliness and isolation because a person does not know anyone, so he keeps his matters to himself, causing him to remain isolated from other people. For example, the statistics of European countries shows that there is an increasing phenomenon of stress in the minority people living in their country. In addition, there are differences in cultures of different nations, because of that people need time to adapt to that culture. Moral and religous principles are unique in both nations. Hence, a person faces these difficulties while staying in that country.

Similarly, majority of the people travel abroad in search of employment opportunities. The language spoken in abroad is not understandable which creates barriers in finding appropriate career options. They prefer native people which stops the international people from getting good jobs. Moreover, a person has to struggle in arranging daily grocery and shop items. The labels of the particular items are written in their own language, which are not transcribed without the help of internet resources. For example, many international students use Google or AI to translate different hurdles they face, whether is reading or speaking.

In conclusion, staying alone and cultural differences can be visible to a person living abroad, along with the daily grocery issues and career opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree and identify both social difficulties and practical barriers. The response addresses both parts of the prompt, with relevant examples such as isolation, cultural adjustment, job access and shopping. The employment and grocery points are particularly concrete, while the social discussion is less fully explained: the claim about stress among minority people is broad and is not clearly linked to language difficulty. Some points also need more precise development—for example, explain how limited language skills affect everyday interactions or access to services. The conclusion restates the main areas but could more directly reaffirm your degree of agreement. The response covers the task well overall, but uneven development and generalised support limit its completeness.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for social and practical problems, and a conclusion. This makes the main progression easy to follow, and signposts such as “Similarly,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” help connect sections. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “because of that” does not smoothly connect the cultural-difference point, and “These problems are either loneliness and isolation” makes the relationship between the topic and examples difficult to follow. The final paragraph repeats the earlier points rather than drawing them together. To strengthen cohesion, use clearer referencing and vary how you connect cause, example and consequence, while ensuring each paragraph develops one central idea in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “isolation,” “cultural disparity,” “employment opportunities,” and “barriers,” which helps communicate the essay’s main concerns. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “appropriate career options.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “practical meanings,” “commute to another country,” “the language spoken in abroad,” and “daily grocery.” Spelling errors such as “religous” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but they make parts of the response less natural and precise. Focus on learning common word partnerships and checking whether a chosen word fits its context, rather than relying on formal-sounding phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures such as “because a person does not know anyone” and a relative clause in “items are written in their own language, which are not transcribed.” This shows some range, but control is uneven, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “a person commute” instead of “a person commutes,” “the statistics … shows” instead of “show,” and “whether is reading or speaking,” where the clause structure is incomplete. The sentence beginning “These problems are either…” is also difficult to parse. Review subject–verb agreement, complete clause formation, and relative-clause agreement. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your existing attempts at complex sentences, would make the argument easier to read.
