Student answer (Band 5.5)

Living in a foreign country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems,as well as practical problems.Personally i agree with this view.

Firstly, we talked about a person who lives most of his life in his home country and after that he moves to other country for job, study or realted to busniess.so its a new kind of expirence for a person. For people when they try to talk with other local people they don't really understand their point of view. They face diffiiculty in making new friends and also face a hard time to find jobs in the market.

Moreover, the companies mostly prefer to native speaker of the country who knows tha language because some kinds of work needs a language connection. In addition , i put an example on my expirence ,few months ago i applied in a seed products selling company in germany and i am from pakistan so i know little bit about german but they select me. After few months they fired me because

i can't communicate with the local community realted to my work . my work is in the rural areas of the country. i had to sell seeds of different flowers so i need to explain to the people about their speciality and the benefits about the product but the local community don't understanf my point so i face really difficulty in field and after that my sale was so low and company decided to fire me from job and they hired a local person from the country who know abour the language very well.

In conculsion,if someone works or for any purpose lives in a foreign country they have to learn local language first otherwise it so difficult to survive for a long time in any foreign country

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that living abroad without strong command of the local language can create serious difficulties. You address both social effects, such as struggling to make friends, and practical effects, especially finding and keeping work. The account of your seed-selling job in Germany is relevant and gives a concrete explanation of how communication problems affected your sales and employment. However, the social point is only briefly stated, and the discussion focuses mainly on employment; explain more fully how language barriers can affect relationships or participation in the wider community. The conclusion restates your view, but could draw together both types of problem more explicitly. The response meets the task requirements, including the required length; 19 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “Firstly” and “Moreover,” and a concluding paragraph. The personal example also follows a generally understandable sequence from applying for the job to being dismissed. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. The first body paragraph begins “we talked about a person,” which does not clearly connect to your own argument, while the second contains a very long account with several events and explanations crowded together. Some links, such as “In addition,” are mechanical, and punctuation around transitions is inconsistent. Organise the example into shorter sentences and use clear references to show how each point supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “local community,” “native speaker,” “communicate,” and “benefits.” The specific account of selling seeds also gives you opportunities to describe a real workplace situation. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make parts less clear or natural, such as “language connection,” “put an example on my experience,” and “their speciality.” There are also repeated basic terms such as “country,” “people,” and “work.” Aim to learn accurate phrases for discussing communication and employment, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would make your explanation clearer without changing its personal, relevant content.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the reader can generally understand the main sequence of events. For example, you explain that you needed to describe the seeds’ benefits and that poor communication affected sales. However, control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences, where clauses are joined without clear punctuation or complete grammatical structure. There are also errors in tense, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, as in “the local community don’t understanf my point” and “they hired a local person … who know.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including lowercase “i” and missing spaces after commas. Practise building accurate shorter sentences first, then combine them using controlled subordinate clauses.
