Student answer (Band 4.5)

Living in a country i have to speak a foreign language can cause serious problems, as well as practical problems. When i can not speak foreign langauge i do not make freinds and isolated in my house. Difficulty to local person what they say. I can not enjoy their culture.Misunderstanding my collegues and friends conversation. I can not feel safe. I feel lonely.

In a foreign country if a person can not understand the language in this country he is not save in their country. He face many problems For example medical, financial and educationl issues. If he prepare the language he is fail in any situation.

In other way, if a person who live in Italy and he is not know not about french language he can not survive in this city. He is not going in any city he can not enjoy the italian history. he can not travel in any city of italy. For example if he is going to a restaurant he can not order in French language. If he is not feeling well he can not undersatand the doctor's language.

In my opinion, when a person try to move in other country he prepare in their languge everyone knows about English but mosltly not know about English. I truely agree if a person have no knowledge about foreign language he face many difficulties. Language skills help more confidence communicate with local persons.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You clearly agree that living without the local language creates both social and practical difficulties, and you mention relevant examples such as isolation, medical care, finances, education, and ordering food. However, the position and supporting ideas are only partly developed: several points are listed rather than explained, and the Italy/French example is confusing and does not clearly support the situation described. The response also contains 228 words, so it is 22 words below the required minimum; the nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To strengthen the response, state your position clearly in the introduction, explain how each example causes a serious problem, and add a specific, coherent example from experience or knowledge.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response into paragraphs, and the ideas generally relate to the topic. The opening focuses on social isolation, the next paragraph introduces practical difficulties, and the final paragraph gives your opinion. However, progression is difficult to follow because many points appear as short, disconnected statements, such as “I can not feel safe. I feel lonely.” Links between ideas are often missing, and “In other way” does not clearly signal the relationship between the paragraphs. The Italy example also shifts between Italian and French, disrupting the line of reasoning. Use a clear introduction, separate paragraphs for social and practical problems, and linking phrases that show cause, example, and result.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a basic set of relevant words, including “isolated,” “misunderstanding,” “medical,” “financial,” and “confidence,” so the reader can identify the main topic and several consequences. However, vocabulary is limited and repetitive, particularly in repeated uses of “problem,” “language,” and “city.” Several spelling errors and inaccurate word choices make parts harder to understand, for example “save” for “safe,” “educationl,” “freinds,” and “prepare the language.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “Difficulty to local person what they say.” Build a wider range of accurate expressions for communication barriers and their effects, and check spelling and collocations carefully. For instance, use “learn the local language” rather than “prepare the language.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly uses short, simple sentences, with a few attempts to form longer conditional or relative clauses. This gives some basic control, but the range is very limited and errors are frequent, sometimes making the intended meaning unclear. Examples include “When i can not speak foreign langauge i do not make freinds and isolated in my house,” where the subject and verb pattern is incomplete, and “he is not know” and “he face,” which show problems with verb forms and agreement. Articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation also need attention. Practise building accurate sentences with a subject and finite verb, then combine related ideas using “because,” “if,” and “as a result.” Proofread for capitalisation and full stops.
